Mục đích – Tăng cường sản xuất nông nghiệp là trung tâm của chương trình Cách mạng Xanh (GR). Sáng kiến này, có lịch sử từ những năm 1940, xoay quanh việc phát triển các giống hạt giống có năng suất cao và kháng bệnh nhằm mục đích đem lại sản xuất thực phẩm hiệu quả và an toàn. Mục đích của bài báo này là trình bày một cái nhìn tóm tắt về nguồn gốc và động lực của GR. Tập trung vào Nigeria như một trường hợp điển hình của Châu Phi, nội dung thảo luận đề cập đến kinh tế chính trị của nông nghiệp Nigeria, phác thảo các đặc điểm của GR Nigeria và nhấn mạnh một số vấn đề quan trọng được thảo luận trong hội nghị Salzburg Global Seminar (SGS) năm 2008 cho một GR Châu Phi độc đáo như một chiến lược phát triển vì người nghèo. Thiết kế/phương pháp tiếp cận – Sử dụng phân tích diễn ngôn phê phán và thiết kế nghiên cứu tình huống, bài báo phân tích các sai sót chính trị và quan liêu liên quan đến việc giới thiệu và thực hiện cải cách. Kết quả – Mặc dù lo ngại về một số vấn đề xã hội-chính trị và môi trường xung quanh việc sản xuất sinh vật biến đổi gen (GMO) và việc sử dụng đầu vào bên ngoài cao (HEIs) trong nỗ lực thúc đẩy một GR Châu Phi mới, bài báo báo cáo các diễn biến của hội nghị Salzburg như một nền tảng khả thi cho việc xây dựng các chính sách mới vì người nghèo trong bối cảnh GR Châu Phi. Nếu được thực hiện một cách chân thành và đúng đắn, bài báo cho rằng khuôn khổ GR hướng tới Châu Phi được xem như một cơ hội chính sách để giải quyết các thách thức của phần lớn người nghèo trên lục địa. Tác động xã hội – Các vấn đề chính sách được nêu trong bài báo sẽ là nguồn thông tin từ đó có thể hình thành, xây dựng và thực hiện các chính sách vì lợi ích của các nền kinh tế nông nghiệp Châu Phi và phần lớn người nghèo. Tính độc đáo/gía trị – Những vấn đề được nêu bật trong các cuộc tranh luận về một GR "độc đáo" Châu Phi trong hội nghị SGS cung cấp những hiểu biết nguyên bản cho việc thực hiện các cải cách nông nghiệp ở châu lục này. Bài báo có giá trị đối với các nhà hoạch định chính sách và các bên liên quan khác trong việc định hình lại lĩnh vực nông nghiệp trên toàn lục địa.
