Cận thị là một vấn đề sức khỏe cộng đồng trên toàn thế giới và tỷ lệ mắc ngày càng tăng theo độ tuổi. Việc sử dụng châm cứu để điều trị cận thị là một thực hành phổ biến ở Trung Quốc, tuy nhiên, sự áp dụng châm cứu để điều trị cận thị lại gây tranh cãi ở các khu vực khác trên thế giới. Nghiên cứu này nhằm mục tiêu xác định độ an toàn của châm cứu khi điều trị cận thị và hiệu quả của nó trong vòng sáu tháng. Một thử nghiệm lâm sàng ngẫu nhiên, song song, một trung tâm, được giám sát và thống kê mù, có đối chứng sẽ được thực hiện. Tổng cộng 100 thanh thiếu niên, từ 7 đến 12 tuổi, có mắt cận thị nhẹ đến trung bình và kính cầu <-6.00 D cùng kính trụ <-1.50 D sẽ được chọn từ Viện Y học Cổ truyền Duy Ngô Nhĩ Tân Cương, một bệnh viện giảng dạy cấp III, loại A tại Urumqi, Tân Cương, Trung Quốc (Bệnh viện Y học Cổ truyền thuộc Đại học Y Tân Cương). Các đối tượng sẽ được phân ngẫu nhiên thành hai nhóm khác nhau (nhóm đối chứng và nhóm châm cứu), mỗi nhóm chứa 50 đối tượng. Các đối tượng trong cả hai nhóm sẽ đeo kính điều chỉnh thị lực đơn. Trong nhóm châm cứu, châm cứu sẽ được thực hiện hàng ngày trong chín ngày liên tiếp tại năm điểm (Cuanzhu hai bên, Tongziliao, Sibai, Muchuang, và Hegu), sau đó sẽ không có điều trị trong một ngày. Sáu chu kỳ điều trị sẽ được tiến hành liên tục trong tổng cộng 60 ngày. Sau 60 ngày điều trị, sẽ có một giai đoạn theo dõi kéo dài sáu tháng. Kết quả chính sẽ là xác định số đi-ốp. Các kết quả thứ cấp sẽ bao gồm thị lực xa, chiều dài trục nhãn cầu, độ dày của thủy tinh thể, độ dày của cơ ciliary, và các triệu chứng chủ quan của mắt và toàn thân. Thời điểm chính để đánh giá hiệu quả lâm sàng sẽ là tháng đầu tiên, tháng thứ ba và tháng thứ sáu sau điều trị. Nghiên cứu này sẽ cung cấp những quan sát lâm sàng về nhiều chỉ số sau khi sử dụng châm cứu để điều trị cho thanh thiếu niên bị cận thị nhẹ đến trung bình, cũng như thông tin về độ an toàn của châm cứu.
