Người cao tuổi cố gắng đạt được sự lão hóa tốt bằng cách tham gia vào các hoạt động khởi nghiệp sau khi ngừng công việc tổ chức. Mặc dù đây là một thực hành phổ biến ở nhiều xã hội, nhưng còn rất ít nghiên cứu về động lực nào thúc đẩy người cao tuổi tham gia vào các hoạt động khởi nghiệp khi họ kết thúc việc làm chính thức. Chúng tôi áp dụng lý thuyết tự quyết (SDT) để điều tra những ảnh hưởng của nội dung mục tiêu và động lực đối với sự phúc lợi của người cao tuổi khi họ khởi đầu hành trình khởi nghiệp. Dựa trên các cuộc phỏng vấn sâu với các doanh nhân cao tuổi ở Trung Quốc, Ấn Độ và Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ, chúng tôi đóng góp vào kiến thức hiện có bằng cách liên kết các định đề riêng biệt. Các định đề này bao gồm: nội dung mục tiêu và khởi nghiệp dựa trên động lực nội tại, quản lý các thách thức bên trong và bên ngoài, và đạt được kết quả cuối cùng của sự lão hóa tốt. Chúng tôi cũng điều tra các yếu tố văn hóa đặc thù thúc đẩy khởi nghiệp của người cao tuổi trong một khung so sánh. Ý nghĩa của nghiên cứu này là các doanh nhân cao tuổi mang đến một mạng lưới động lực nội tại phức tạp cho các hành động khởi nghiệp của họ, ảnh hưởng đến sự phúc lợi của họ và tạo ra lợi ích cho xã hội. Các yếu tố văn hóa cũng đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc theo đuổi các dự án khởi nghiệp.
