Một phương pháp địa thống kê đã được phát triển với mục tiêu mô phỏng các lưới ba chiều của tính thấm. Nghiên cứu trường hợp là một khối đá massif rất không đồng nhất, chủ yếu được cấu thành từ granit và schist với các điều kiện phong hóa và nứt nẻ khác biệt, bao quanh và là một phần của một mỏ uranium cũ ở trung tâm Bồ Đào Nha. Hành vi thủy lực đối lập được cung cấp bởi đá nứt và một ma trận đá phong hóa rộng rãi chủ yếu bởi các khoáng chất đất sét. Khối lithology, phong hóa và nứt nẻ đã được chọn làm thuộc tính địa chất để mô phỏng. Dữ liệu và thông tin đã được phân tích chi tiết để tích hợp vào một phương pháp mô hình hóa địa thống kê tuần tự. Quy trình mô phỏng được điều kiện hóa theo các histogram dữ liệu địa phương. Hình ảnh mô phỏng tính thấm cho thấy mức độ không đồng nhất cao cả theo chiều ngang và chiều dọc. Các khu vực tiềm năng cho việc truyền dẫn dòng chảy cao được giới hạn về số lượng và sự liên kết không thật sự rõ ràng. Các kênh nhỏ, những cấu trúc chính chịu trách nhiệm cho việc truyền dẫn dòng chảy ngầm, có thể được xác định bên trong khối đá.
