Ngành bảo hiểm đóng vai trò then chốt trong bất kỳ nền kinh tế hiện đại nào. Công nghệ blockchain hứa hẹn sẽ cách mạng hóa hoàn toàn ngành này, với nhiều tuyên bố táo bạo về việc tạo điều kiện và tăng tốc độ giải quyết yêu cầu bồi thường cũng như cải thiện quản lý gian lận. Trong bài báo này, chúng tôi xem xét các yếu tố có thể ảnh hưởng đến mức độ phổ biến và xâm nhập của blockchain trong ngành bảo hiểm. Chúng tôi áp dụng khung STEEP để phân tích các vấn đề xã hội, công nghệ, môi trường, kinh tế và chính trị/hợp pháp chính có thể tác động đến mức độ sẵn sàng hoặc ngược lại của ngành bảo hiểm đối với blockchain, dựa trên một tài liệu đa dạng và đa ngành. Chúng tôi bổ sung điều này bằng dữ liệu lấy từ 565 người tham gia khảo sát tại châu Âu về việc sử dụng blockchain trong ngành bảo hiểm. Kết quả nhấn mạnh sự cần thiết phải có cái nhìn đúng đắn và truyền đạt cụ thể cách thức mà blockchain có thể được triển khai trong các nhiệm vụ bảo hiểm khác nhau nhằm có được cái nhìn rõ hơn về lợi ích của nó đối với nhân viên, ban lãnh đạo và khách hàng.
