A Review on smart nanotextiles for filtration
Tóm tắt
Smart nanotextiles-based nanotechnology has gained a promising commercial value and have shown a great increasing demand for the development of sophisticated fabrics with outstanding features. Smart textiles are fabric materials which responds to external conditions or stimuli such as thermal, mechanical, chemical, electrical, magnetic, and optical. The “smartness” of the textiles is induced by incorporating some materials into the fibrous structure in order to give specific characteristics or functions to the textile surfaces. These characteristics enables functions such as self-cleaning, antibacterial and antistatic, and sensing abilities which somehow paved the way to numerous potential applications for these smart textiles such as healthcare, defense systems, water, sports, and fashion. Smart textiles such as nanofibers have recently been applied in water filtration processes and have shown high removal efficiency toward contaminants. Smart textiles are also characterized by high wettability/hydrophilicity which leads to high water adsorption. This review highlights the latest developments in smart nanotextiles for application in water application for the removal of different contaminants such organic and inorganic pollutants.
