Biến đổi khí hậu và đô thị hóa đang kết hợp lại để thách thức cơ sở hạ tầng thoát nước đô thị do những tác động tiêu cực của chúng đến các hiện tượng thời tiết cực đoan và môi trường của các khu vực đô thị. Các hệ thống thoát nước bền vững đã thu hút được sự quan tâm ngày càng tăng của công chúng trong những năm gần đây, nhờ vào những tác động tích cực của chúng về chất lượng và khối lượng nước, cũng như những tiện ích giải trí bổ sung được cảm nhận trong cảnh quan đô thị. Bài báo này xem xét tiến bộ gần đây trong phát triển thoát nước bền vững dựa trên tài liệu từ các lĩnh vực chuyên môn khác nhau. Sau khi trình bày các yếu tố chính và tiêu chí thiết kế thoát nước bền vững, các thiết bị và ví dụ về hệ thống thoát nước bền vững được giới thiệu. Các phương pháp mô hình tiên tiến và các công cụ hỗ trợ quyết định để đánh giá các phương án bền vững được thảo luận và so sánh. Bài báo cũng khám phá một số hạn chế và khó khăn trong việc áp dụng các giải pháp sáng tạo và đề xuất một cách tiếp cận tích hợp và liên ngành cho thiết kế thoát nước bền vững.
