Vạt dưới cằm là một công cụ hữu ích trong tái tạo mặt hàm. Đối với việc sử dụng trong khoang miệng, lông ở bệnh nhân nam sẽ gây ra một số vấn đề. Trong một nghiên cứu hồi cứu, những bệnh nhân đã được sử dụng vạt dưới cằm để tái tạo vùng hoặc mặt trong khoảng thời gian từ năm 2007 đến 2013 tại Bệnh viện Ghaem, Đại học Mashhad đã được đưa vào nghiên cứu. Các phương pháp giải quyết vấn đề lông ở bệnh nhân nam đã được đánh giá. Có 42 bệnh nhân đã sử dụng vạt dưới cằm để tái tạo hoặc mặt. Sáu mươi phần trăm là nam giới. Ba phương pháp đã được sử dụng để quản lý lông trong khoang miệng: xạ trị (9 bệnh nhân), phẫu thuật lần hai (2 bệnh nhân) và loại bỏ biểu mô vạt (13 bệnh nhân). Biến thể vạt dưới cằm đã loại bỏ biểu mô là lựa chọn tốt nhất khi vạt dưới cằm được sử dụng cho tái tạo khoang miệng ở bệnh nhân nam. Độ dày của vạt, tuổi, chủng tộc và xạ trị sau phẫu thuật có thể ảnh hưởng mạnh đến chiến lược này.
