A Novel Study of Dielectric Properties of Discs Fabricated from Nanopowder of Calcined Clams, Periwinkle, and Oyster Shells
Tóm tắt
A novel study of dielectric properties of discs developed separately using nano-powder of calcined Clams, Periwinkle, and Oyster shells has been carried out. The shells (obtained from market dumpsite) were washed, air-dried, calcined and ball-milled to nano-powder having particles that sized at most 80 nm. In each case, five thicknesses of discs were considered and three replicates were fabricated. Capacitance, dielectric constant, and dissipation factor were determined at select frequencies ranging from 0.1 kHz to 10.0 MHz. The results revealed an exponential decay of dielectric constant with increase in frequency. The same trend was observed between dissipation factor and frequency. The values obtained for the studied samples showed a keen competition with those of already known and established dielectric materials often used for production of capacitors. The shells utilized in this study have sustainability and are usually discarded as waste materials. Economically, the shells are cheap and also, easy to obtain. Based on the findings from this work, the shells of Clams, Oyster, and Periwinkle could be considered as potential raw materials for production of capacitor in electrical /electronic industry.
