Tóm tắt

The transmission dynamics of COVID-19 are due to human-to-human transmission (measured by the population density) and air pollution-to-human transmission (airborne viral infectivity). This study highlights the correlation between meteorological indices (temperature, wind, rainfall and humidity), the incidence of COVID-19 cases and the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 variants within the study area. The daily meteorological data and COVID-19 cases were correlated. Metadata downloaded and obtained from the GISAID database was analysed from April 2020 to February 2022. There is a significant negative correlation between the incidence of COVID-19 and meteorological variables, namely temperature, humidity and rainfall, in Mizoram. 2020 observed the highest spread of B.1.1.216 SARS-CoV-2 sub-variant until March 2021. However, the delta variant replaced all existing variants from June 2021, and October 2021 marked its maximum incidence (99.8%). The emergence of Omicron (BA and subvariants) was observed from January 2022. Reasons that influence the rise in COVID-19 are speculated – the type of subvariant circulating within the community, meteorological factors and indoor transmission due to the socio-cultural behaviour of the community have also been discussed.
