College students as paraprofessional career specialists
Tóm tắt
The utilization and effectiveness of students as paraprofessionals in student services has been demonstrated. Their use in career development services has not been documented through empirical research, but has been discussed through the use of subjective data collected over ten years at the University of Missouri-Columbia. This particular model for using paraprofessionals in career planning and placement services represents one of the most successful and long-running models in the country. It is the hope of the authors that others, interested in the development or reorganization of a peer model, use this article as a “think-piece” in identifying the key elements that they will need to address on their particular campus and in their particular agency. This model has worked at the University of Missouri-Columbia's CPPC and is guaranteednot to work anywhere else without the modifications that each location demands. Materials describing the program, including training manual, selection materials, and job descriptions are available from the authors.
