Tóm tắt Sử dụng dữ liệu từ Ấn Độ, chúng tôi ước lượng mối quan hệ giữa tài sản hộ gia đình và tỷ lệ nhập học của trẻ em. Chúng tôi đại diện cho tài sản bằng cách xây dựng một chỉ số tuyến tính từ các chỉ số sở hữu tài sản, sử dụng phân tích thành phần chính để đưa ra trọng số. Trong dữ liệu Ấn Độ, chỉ số này ổn định với các tài sản được đưa vào và tạo ra kết quả nội tại thống nhất. Kết quả ở cấp bang tương ứng tốt với dữ liệu độc lập về sản lượng đầu người và nghèo đói. Để xác thực phương pháp và cho thấy rằng chỉ số tài sản dự đoán tỷ lệ nhập học chính xác như chi tiêu, hoặc hơn thế, chúng tôi sử dụng các tập dữ liệu từ Indonesia, Pakistan và Nepal bao gồm thông tin về cả chi tiêu và tài sản. Kết quả cho thấy sự chênh lệch lớn và biến động về tài sản trong tỷ lệ nhập học của trẻ em giữa các bang của Ấn Độ. Trung bình, một đứa trẻ "giàu" có khả năng được nhập học cao hơn 31 điểm phần trăm so với một đứa trẻ "nghèo", nhưng sự chênh lệch này dao động từ chỉ 4,6 điểm phần trăm ở Kerala đến 38,2 ở Uttar Pradesh và 42,6 ở Bihar.
