In 2022, the JTSE registered the international identifier Digital Object Identifier (DOI): 10.58334\u002Fvrtc.jtst and assigned DOI codes to all articles of the journal. The members of the Editorial Board of the JTSE are prestigious scientists and leading scientists from Vietnam and many countries in the world. The JTSE has been recognized by the Vietnam State Council for Professorship to score scientific articles in Chemistry, Medicine and Biology with scores ranging from 0-0.75 points.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp Những bài báo không đúng quy cách hoặc có nội dung không phù hợp hoặc vi phạm bản quyền sẽ bị từ chối (Ban Thư ký thông báo phản hồi đến tác giả trong vòng 1 tuần). Những bài báo đủ điều kiện, được Ban Thư ký tòa soạn chuyển đến Ban Biên tập có cùng chuyên môn với nội dung bài báo để đề xuất người phản biện. Các phản biện gởi nhận xét cho Ban Thư ký. Nếu ý kiến đồng ý đăng và cần chỉnh sửa, Ban Thư ký sẽ thông tin đến tác giả chỉnh sửa theo yêu cầu của người phản biện. Thời gian chỉnh sửa và gửi lại kéo dài không quá 2 tuần, từ khi tác giả bài báo nhận được thông tin (Quá trình này có thể lặp lại tối đa 2 lần\u002F1 bài báo). Ban Thư ký tổng hợp các bản thảo đã được tác giả hoàn thiện sau thẩm định trình Ban Biên tập xem xét, Tổng Biên tập phê duyệt, quyết định bài đăng theo các tiêu chí: sự phù hợp nội dung với tôn chỉ và mục đích, thể loại bài viết (ưu tiên các bài có bài có nghiên cứu chuyên sâu, hàm lượng khoa học cao), đóng góp mới bài báo, bài báo được ưu tiên đăng trong số gần nhất của Tạp chí theo thứ tự: tính thời sự, chất lượng bài báo và thời gian gửi bài.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">2. In this study we investigated the expressions of ET-1, ET-3, and their receptors, ETA and ETB, in a rat chronic renal transplant rejection model. Renal allografts were performed (F344 → Lewis) with bilateral nephrectomy in recipients. For isograft control, lewis → lewis transplantations were performed. All recipients were sacrificed 140 days after transplantation and the grafts were analyzed histologically. ET-1 and ET-3 protein expression in grafts was measured by immunohistochemistry and ELISA. Semiquantitative RT-PCR methods were used for mRNA levels of ET-1, ET-3, ETA and ETB. No evidence of chronical rejection was manifested in isografts. The allografted rats showed proteinuria and increased serum creatinine levels. Histologically, renal allografts showed atrophy and sclerosis of the glomeruli, cortical scarring and vascular intimal thickening. Immunohistochemically, ET-1 and ET-3 were localized in the convoluted tubules, collecting ducts, endothelium and smooth muscle cells of the large blood vessels. Significantly increased staining for ET-1 and ET-3 were found in allografts compared to isografts. Simultaneously, ELISA for ET-1 and ET-3 showed elevated protein concentrations in allografts compared to isografts. Allografts showed significantly increased ET-1- and ET-3 mRNA compared to isografts. On the other hand, a significant down regulation of the ETA mRNA was noted, and the ETB mRNA remained unchanged. alterations are a well-known phenomenon that influence the outcome of orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). Whether or not myocardial dysfunction, which has various causes, contributes to this instability is still debated. Previous transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) studies have presented controversial data, not leading to final clarification. This is mainly because the impact of other contributing factors (inotropic support, alternating preload conditions and temperature) remained unaccounted for. We therefore measured the left ventricular shortening fraction (LVSF), a parameter reflecting myocardial contractility, in 10 consecutive patients undergoing OLT without veno-venous bypass. We measured during preparation (PP), during the anhepatic (AP) phase and the immediate reperfusion phase (RP). During the AP we observed a significant decrease of LVSF which never fell to subnormal levels in the majority of our patients, whereas during the RP, LVSF returned to PP values. Neverthless, in clinical transplantation it is still undefined how the influence of covariates changes over time. The additive regression model is an alternative (or extension) to the Cox model. It results in plots (Aalen plots) that may give information on the effect of covariates over time by way of the cumulative regression function plots. A total of 386 primary cadaveric kidney transplants performed between 1984 and 1996 were included in our analysis. The follow-up period ranged from 24 to 156 months. According to Aalen, an additive regression model was used and plots for the detection of time-dependent effects of covariates were determined. Patients dying with functioning grafts were classed as graft failures. Factors potentially affecting graft outcome, such as sex, donor and recipient's age, HLA A-B match, cold ischaemia time (CIT), delayed graft function (DGF), serum creatinine at 1 month (Cr1), rejection episodes within 3 months (R3), and type of brain death (BD), were considered. The slopes of the plots by donor age, DGF, HLA A-B match, R3, Cr1 and BD appear to have a significant influence throughout the observation period, with different time-dependent effects on graft survival. Slopes for DGF, Cr1, and age of donor are positive (increased hazard), while slopes for HLA match and BD are negative (decreased hazard). Estimated regression functions for DGF, donor age and Cr1 show a prompt slope (within 3 months); the covariate R3 has a clear influence for about 5 years, and then seems to disappear; and BD appears to have a consistent effect over the entire period. The additive regression model with Aalen plots represents a useful technique in the analysis of survival data after kidney transplantation. Some covariates, such as R3, may often lose their effects on graft survival, with a relevant clinical impact. There has only been one report on the development of a brain tumor metastasis in liver transplantation. From September 1988 to January 1993, 342 donor hepatectomies with subsequent transplantation were performed at our center. The main donor diagnoses included subarachnoidal bleeding (n=128; 37.4%), isolated head injury (n=114; 33.3%), multiple injuries (n=55; 16.1%), primary cerebral neoplasia (n=13; 3.8%), and other (n=32; 9.4%). Primary cerebral neoplasia included glioblastoma (n=4), meningioma (n=3), astrocytoma (n=2), angioma (n=2), neurocytoma (n=1), and ependymoma (n=1). In the group of donors suffering from primary cerebral neoplasia, procured organs other than the liver included kidneys (n=20), combined kidneys and pancreata (n=1), pancreata (n=2) hearts (n=8), combined hearts and lungs (n=1), and single lungs (n=1). Follow-up of the respective graft recipients ranged from 28 to 68 months (median 43 months). Recurrent malignancy was observed once, in a liver graft recipient. The donor, a 48-year-old female, had undergone surgical resection of an intracerebral multiform glioblastoma and died 4 months later of a relapse in the brain stem. The 28-year-old female recipient had undergone transplantation for an autoimmune-hepatitic cirrhosis. Four months later, histopathological examination of an intraperitoneal and intrahepatic mass revealed a poorly differentiated, small-cell pleomorphic cancer, identified as a glioma metastasis by S100-and glial fibrillary acidic protein immunohistochemical staining. The patient died 6 months post-transplantation. On autopsy, no further neoplastic lesions were detected. cost-effectiveness of liver transplantation (LTx) for acute liver failure compared to costs and cost-effectiveness of LTx for chronic liver failure. In this study, costs of acute and of chronic LTx patients were determined in a retrospective study. Files of 100 consecutive patients who underwent LTx in 1993–1997 were studied. Costs up to 1 year after LTx were Euro 107,675 (chronic liver failure) and Euro 90,792 (acute liver failure). The difference was mainly caused by higher hospitalisation costs and higher personnel costs for chronic liver failure. Medication costs for acute liver failure were higher, due to a high administration rate of expensive anti-HBs immunoglobulin therapy in patients with viral hepatitis B. OLTx was performed in 11 pairs of pigs via a venovenous bypass. Six of these grafts were transplanted immediately (group A), while the other five were preserved in University of Wisconsin (UW) solution for 24 h and then transplanted (group B). All grafts were flushed with 300 ml of chilled (4°C) Ringer's lactate solution before reperfusion of the graft, when 20 ml of effluent from the graft was collected and the concentrations of ammonia, lactic acid, GOT, and LDH were measured. Four of the six pigs in group A survived longer than 3 days, while the other two pigs died of causes other than graft dysfunction. All five pigs in group B died either of hemoperitoneum or hemodynamic instability due to liver failure. The histology of postperfusion biopsies in group A showed minimal pathological changes, while the grafts in group B revealed moderate to severe ischemic injuries. Ammonia and lactic acid in the effluent of group B were significantly higher than those of group A (1511±216 vs 417±333 μg\u002Fdl and 114.1±12.2 vs 91.4±12.2 mg\u002Fdl, respectively; P\u003C0.05 in both cases). In the present report, we have reviewed our records of renal transplant pediatric recipients (RTPR; mean age 14.1 ± 4.9 years) since 1991, when we started a policy of CMV prophylaxis constituting high-dose oral acyclovir plus CMV hyperimmune immunoglobulins (Hlg) followed by early i. v. ganciclovir therapy in high-risk patients (i. e., CMV donor + \u002F recipient −). Four patients received a kidney from a living relative (LR), 2 patients had one previous transplant, and 1 had a combined liver – kidney transplant. Thirty-three patients who were negative for CMV antibodies (ab) before transplantation received a kidney from CMV ab positive donors. The immunosuppressive regimen included cyclosporine A and steroids, with the addition of azathioprine in the 4 patients who received an LR kidney. Serial assessments for CMV antigenemia (pp 65) were routinely performed for 6 months after transplantation to define CMV infection. Among the 33 CMV seronegative recipients (R −) who received the graft from a CMV seropositive donor (D +), 18 (54.5 %) experienced CMV infection, whereas among the 28 CMV R +, who received a graft from a CMV D +, 11 (39.3 %) experienced CMV infection. With regard to CMV − related symptoms, only 2 patients suffered from a CMV syndrome (fever and leukopenia in 1 patient, fever and arthralgia in the other). In no case did the spectrum of CMV disease occur; only minor symptoms were present in 7 of the remaining CMV-infected patients (fever in 6 and leukopenia in 1). Our previous study suggested the opposite, i.e., livers from donors fasted for 4 days were significantly more viable on orthotopic liver transplantation. Fasting may decrease the sensitivity of the liver to an inflammatory response or block Kupffer cell activation following transplantation. Thus, long-term fasting may be beneficial for reasons unrelated to liver glycogen content. In this study we attempted to separate out the roles of fasting and liver glycogen in liver transplant outcome by fasting donors for 2 days and then feeding them only glucose to elevate liver glycogen. Rats (Brown Norway) were fed (standard diet), fasted (4 days), or fasted 2 days and then fed glucose (in water) for 2 days. Livers were preserved for either 30 or 44 h in UW solution and transplanted. Four-day fasting of the donor improved the survival rate in liver transplantation (50%–100% in 30-h cold storage, 29%–83% in 44-h cold storage). However, feeding glucose for 2 days to fasted animals caused a decrease in survival in this series of transplants (40% in 30-h cold storage, 0% in 44-h cold storage). In the glucose-fed group, liver glycogen was 240% of that in the control group.
