To differing degrees they are much less deflation-phobic than the mainstream. Nevertheless, when it comes to deflation, they diverge very much and do not staunchly champion the free market. In contrast to their laissez-faire views on most other subjects, in order to fight deflation, they come up with an arsenal of state interventions, like government bailouts, redistribution of gold, amnesty and privileges for the banking system, government-planned monetary reforms, public works, credit expansion, and inflation. Curiously, with these interventions they want to prevent the liberating deflation, i.e., the free market reaction to an abstention of all government interventions into the monetary system, especially the fractional reserve banks’ privileges and amnesty. They fail to see that deflation is a fast, smooth, direct, and ethical way to a sound financial system.
Deflation: When Austrians become interventionists
10.1007/s12113-003-1002-6","https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12113-003-1002-6",[260
"f463a473-7e9d-458b-af6e-9af21f3cfd33",[124],[264
"4c324601-8e23-4098-a94e-4e70a1e6aff9","2023-12-29T10:45:29.872+00:00",[
The University of Münster, Germany
Philipp Bagus
[
[],[],[286
[
[61],[65
i10Index":69,"i10IndexLast5Year":23
"hindexLast5Year":44
},{"1998":72,"1999":73,"2000":74,"2001":73,"2002":72,"2003":75,"2004":76,"2005":75,"2006":77,"2007":72,"2008":74},{"1998":69,"1999":80,"2000":81,"2001":82,"2002":83,"2003":84,"2004":85,"2005":84,"2006":77,"2007":86},{"1998":89,"1999":90,"2000":91,"2001":92,"2002":93,"2003":94,"2004":95,"2005":94,"2006":96,"2007":97
"6
19-35","2003-12-01",2003
"b9c6d8a8-fe53-468d-a35b-df5297b712f7","2024-02-07T12:38:11.570+00:00","2025-01-27T23:39:41.821+00:00",[],"Mises-on-Monetary-Reform-the-Private-Alternative
"Gertchev, Nikolay. 2004. “Dehomogenizing Mises's Monetary Theory.” Journal of Libertarian Studies 18(3).
Hülsmann, Jörg Guido. 2007. We will largely focus on technical aspects—the concrete practical steps he recommended—without detailing how these relate to his general conceptions of money and of a sound monetary order. We will highlight two characteristic features of Mises's proposals. One, he stressed the role of the competitive market process and of private initiative in establishing a monetary order based on gold, effective gold coin circulation, and 100% reserve banking. Two, he presented an original scheme for privatizing the control of the money supply.
Mises on Monetary Reform: the Private Alternative
10.1007/s12113-008-9044-4","http://link.springer.com/10.1007/s12113-008-9044-4",[322
"79260d7a-1518-405e-a926-4e93711349f4",[124],[326
"83a5fff7-7f63-4be9-ae09-66341e6a63df","2024-02-07T12:38:11.589+00:00","2025-02-10T08:35:52.025+00:00",[],"University-of-Angers-Angers-France
University of Angers, Angers, France
Jörg Guido Hülsmann
[
[],[],[350
[
[61],[65
i10Index":69,"i10IndexLast5Year":23
"hindexLast5Year":44
},{"1998":72,"1999":73,"2000":74,"2001":73,"2002":72,"2003":75,"2004":76,"2005":75,"2006":77,"2007":72,"2008":74},{"1998":69,"1999":80,"2000":81,"2001":82,"2002":83,"2003":84,"2004":85,"2005":84,"2006":77,"2007":86},{"1998":89,"1999":90,"2000":91,"2001":92,"2002":93,"2003":94,"2004":95,"2005":94,"2006":96,"2007":97
"11
208-218","2008-11-13",2008
"f7fee2b5-f208-4cc7-99ba-d37806c61600","2024-01-26T21:48:31.192+00:00","2025-01-11T23:36:56.472+00:00",[],"Austrian-theorizing-Recalling-the-foundations
"Block, Walter, and DiLorenzo, Thomas.
