months of crime incident data were examined to determine the extent to which crime counts changed within the Philadelphia neighborhood of Fishtown after the opening of a new casino. Count modeling regression results indicate that the operation of the casino had no significant effect on violent street felonies, vehicle crime, drug crime or residential burglary in the surrounding community. Weighted displacement quotient analyses suggest that the operation of the casino may be associated with an increase in vehicle crime in the area surrounding the casino neighborhood, indicative of crime displacement. Drug and residential burglary offenses in the area surrounding the casino neighborhood decreased after the casino opened, suggestive of a diffusion of benefits possibly tied to a change in local police patrols. Net of unexamined police patrol changes and casino opening simultaneity effects, the current study is unable to identify a neighborhood level effect of the casino on crime. Additional research is necessary to examine localized effects of casinos on various offenses.",{"EN":273},"A partial test of the impact of a casino on neighborhood Planners and managers have often ignored these critical issues. We conducted a questionnaire survey of 872 park users in eight urban parks in Hong Kong, representing different design, size, and socio-demographic and physical characteristics of the neighborhoods. Perception of personal safety and related park traits were examined. Landscape design and management were the most influential factors in inducing fearful feelings. Visitor-related concerns were more important than inherent park characteristics. However, there is a disconcerting lack of research concerning issues for private security personnel specific to the NTE. Such issues include the duty of care, a risk management approach to staff and patron care, code of conduct, interactions with other service agencies, data and information sharing, incident reporting and functions and resource procedures for private security personnel. There is also little research concerning the ability of security personnel to contribute to reducing alcohol-related harm and injury in the NTE through strategic and operational good practices. To fill this gap, interviews and focus groups were carried out in order to document these strategic and operational practices. These were compared with available models in the literature. Chemical plants, in particular, face the necessity for increased terrorism prevention. This article discusses organizational security measures as they relate to chemical facilities in general, and to four chemical enterprises in particular. Furthermore, a general overview (used in the chemical industry as well as in other industrial sectors) of physical security components used to fight terrorism is provided. Four security hypotheses based on professional and academic literature and on internal documents with reference to the chemical industry are validated via in-depth interviews carried out in four chemical multinationals. The data used for the research were 3 months of terrorist incidents attributed to the insurgency in Iraq during U.S. occupation and the methods used are based on a body of work well established using police recorded crime data. It was found that events clustered in space and time more than would be expected if the events were unrelated, suggesting communication of risk in space and time and potentially informing next event prediction. The analysis represents a first but important step and suggestions for further analysis addressing prevention or suppression of future incidents are briefly discussed.",{"EN":1930},"Space Time Dynamics of Insurgent Activity in Iraq",{"VOID":1932},"[\"16293505835802020662\"]",{"VOID":1934},"Bowers, K.J., Hirschfield, A. and Johnson, S.D. and security on college campuses have received increasingly widespread attention in light of several recent, high-profile events. This study examines the relationship between victimization and fear of crime in a sample of college students, filling gaps in the literature by addressing key issues related to gender differences in fear. A sample of young adults was asked about prior victimization and fear of crime. Gender differences between men and women are examined in terms of relationships among four main types of personal victimization: stalking, sexual assault, family violence and intimate partner violence (IPV). Findings indicate that females are victimized more and are more fearful of crime than males. Race is also associated with fear in this sample. Furthermore, some types of crime victimization are significantly associated with fear of crime, although these associations differ from daytime to night. Implications are discussed in terms of gender, fear and crime victimization on campus.",{"EN":2053},"Gender, crime victimization and fear of
