has been an increase in research into the security culture in organizations in recent years. This growing interest has been accompanied by the development of tools to measure the level of security culture in order to identify potential threats and formulate solutions. This article provides a systematic overview of the existing tools. A total of 16 are identified, of which six are studied in detail. This exploration reveals that there is no validated and widely accepted tool that can be used in different sectors and organizations. The majority of the tools reviewed use only a quantitative method; however, security culture includes very different domains and therefore a mixed-method approach should be used. In contrast to security culture, instruments for measuring safety culture are widely available, and with many similarities between these two domains it is possible that well-established tools for measuring safety culture could be adapted to a security environment.
Measuring the security culture in organizations: a systematic overview of existing tools
AlHogail, A. 2015. risks that tourists perceive during their travels are relevant for their travel experience. Thus, safety has become one of the most important issues not only for travellers, but also for the tourism industry and all its related stakeholders. The reason for safety being prioritised is that tourists share their experiences online, thus forming tourism electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM), which has a definite impact on the tourism destination image (TDI) and influencing future tourists. Therefore, it is relevant to analyse travel reviews to explore, identify and tackle the problems of tourism destination. This paper focuses on analysing the online travel reviews related to the safety issues within the rail systems of three specific destinations. For many visitors, the train network is the first point of contact for tourists with the destinations and have a significant impact on their experience. The content analysis of online travel reviews aims to reveal the factors that influence tourism safety perception, allowing some specific recommendations for destination management organisations to improve tourists’ experience and the projected image of destination in terms of safety.
Tourism safety on train systems: A case study on electronic word-of-mouth in Spain, Italy and Greece
Adam, I., and C.A. is no research which has focused on issues concerning women's security after their release. In this paper we attempt to rectify that omission by drawing on the findings of a research project which followed 200 women through their prison sentence, from reception to resettlement in the community. A significant proportion of these women had suffered prior physical and sexual abuse, few had received any help with this, and, in many cases, there appeared to be links between the abuse and their offending behaviour. Whilst there are arguments for not dealing with this abuse in a prison setting, the problems are not insurmountable. But this type of approach is not sufficient in itself. What is most important is that women are able to manage their own security on release. This ability is seriously curtailed when women are relocated within families which were the site of their abuse, when they are unable to exercise choices about where they will live, and when they are denied the financial autonomy to break free of enforced dependency. The new standards on resettlement, issued by the Prison Service, provide a timely opportunity to respond to women's overriding need to remain free from harm caused by other people.","https://link.springer.com/article/10.1057/palgrave.sj.8340083",[1279,1294,1309
"5562f5ae-981d-4776-bd3c-ce14953319de",[984],[1283
"0b11884b-c7f3-4e73-811e-66a16373aa1a
[
Lecturer In this study we explore whether four different types of facilities act as crime generators in a setting axiomatically different to the West, namely Khayelitsha, a township located on the urban periphery of Cape Town in South Africa. Using intensity value analysis (IVA), we examine the intensity of assault, robbery and rape around four different types of facilities (schools, recreational hubs, transport interchanges, and alcohol outlets) relative to other random locations in Khayelitsha. The results of our research suggest that schools, and to a lesser extent transport interchanges and recreational hubs, may act as crime generators in the township. However, despite its growth, little is known about its professional standards and service delivery or indeed the licencing system designed to ‘police’ and improve them. Notwithstanding the burgeoning security governance literature, there is a limited amount of research that captures practitioner perceptions of their own industry. This article makes an important contribution to that limited research by presenting the findings of two New Zealand-focused studies that together throw much needed light onto an industry on which so many New Zealanders now rely. Drawing on the perceptions and practical experience of those at the front-line of service delivery, the first provides a first-hand ‘insider’ view of industry standards and professionalism. The second examined industry standards through an analysis of all 2011 security licence applications and approvals. In combination the studies highlight the challenges faced by the new regulatory framework in raising standards and reducing risk.
Raising the bar: Professionalism and service delivery standards within New Zealand’s contract private security industry
ASIS. fitting of electronic immobilisers mandatory on all new cars in the UK. This has been widely recognised as an effective method for reducing the risk of vehicle theft. However, to date there has been no systematic evaluation of the effectiveness of introducing electronic immobilisers in this way. This paper reports on a study that set out to measure the effectiveness of the EU legislation on car theft patterns in the UK. Using data from the Home Office Car Theft Index, two competing theories that predict how improved vehicle security would affect vehicle theft rates over time were examined. The study finds evidence that compulsory immobilisation of vehicles has been effective in reducing theft rates. However, there would also appear to have been some displacement towards both older and newer vehicles, although this is outweighed by overall gains in terms of lower theft rates. The study concludes with a recognition that further research is required, based on disaggregate data, rather than on the aggregate statistics presented in this paper.","2025-01-31T14:13:22.371+00:00","https://link.springer.com/article/10.1057/palgrave.sj.8340139",[1741,1756
"182d89a0-528e-4cc2-8a6d-06bf7adbc684",[984],[1745
"8bba8658-87b8-4dac-a977-3512b498c064
[
Managing study examines the impact of InCOP1 – Information Collection on Patrol, a training course that adopts a behavior-based approach to the identification of suspicious activities and behaviors, on information collection by front-line police officers. For this research, we developed a web-based instrument situational awareness assessment instrument to evaluate empirically the individual judgments of police officers drawn came from a cross-section of American state, county, and municipal law enforcement agencies who previously completed InCOP1 training compared with those of officers who did not participate in that training. Study participants employed an 11-point Likert type scale to assess a series of subject matter expert-generated scenarios that emulated a mix of non-suspicious behaviors, generic suspicious behaviors, traditional criminal behaviors and terrorism-centric activities. The results based on 3036 individual judgments indicate trainees had enhanced ability to recognize suspicious activity (more true positives) when compared with officers who did not participate in InCOP1 training. This finding is consistent with criminology studies that suggest training affects police decision making generally and situational awareness specifically.
Effect of intelligence collection training on suspicious activity recognition by front line police officers
Campbell, D.T. and Stanley, J.C. The most common work-related stressors are the role stressors, which include role conflict, role ambiguity, role overload, and dangerousness. All have received attention in the correctional job stress literature. The vast majority of this research has examined the impact of these role stressors on job stress and job satisfaction. Little, if any, research has examined the impact of these stressors on correctional staffs' organizational commitment. Moreover, despite a growing body of literature, the influence of role stressors on private prison staff has rarely been examined. In filling this research void, the following study examines the impact of role stressors on job stress, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment among staff at a Midwestern private prison. Ordinary least squares (OLS) regression models showed that all four role stressors had statistically significant effects on job stress. Role conflict, role ambiguity, and role overload each had a significant impact on job satisfaction, while role conflict and role ambiguity had significant effects on the organizational commitment of private prison staff. This article concludes with the implications of these findings for correctional research and practice.","https://link.springer.com/article/10.1057/palgrave.sj.8340210",[1995,2010,2025,2040
"8284d402-6a1a-4a5a-9abe-b00b4217f64e",[984],[1999
"3314802f-b76a-4594-87c9-76a6df6da137
[
Department
