It is recognized that learning disabilities are often a feature of Asperger Syndrome. Children and adolescents with learning disabilities are vulnerable to experiencing social and emotional problems, in particular difficulties with peers. The social functioning of children and adolescents who have Asperger Syndrome is greatly impeded, although they are motivated to have social contact and to make friends. This paper describes how elements of interpersonal group therapy were combined with modifications, which address the unique social and cognitive profiles of the boys in this group. Case examples are provided to illustrate the group model. The group members and their parents were interviewed after the group and two years later, to obtain their views of the group. Their responses are presented.

Group Therapy for Boys with Features of Asperger Syndrome and Concurrent Learning Disabilities: Finding a Peer Group
10.1023/A:1022984118001","PUBLICATION","https://link.springer.com/article/10.1023/A:1022984118001",[89,117
"38de4ed5-1b6b-42fd-aed9-d2bb1e9e8532",[92],"AUTHOR",[94,105
"6cba6a2b-24c1-4d4a-93c6-68b6bb1dd0a7
"57e95df1-0ce1-40e9-8339-a512b7c9d2e5","2024-01-29T14:54:01.805+00:00",[
Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada","AFFILIATION",{
"b43fd050-70f7-4882-80d7-0fceff2b8e83","2024-02-14T06:38:16.068+00:00","2024-12-18T10:08:44.933+00:00",[],"Toronto
"Faye Mishna
"3c9c33f8-2cee-44a1-8577-52d7f527f0ce",[92],[121
"4f93abf5-f60a-4aed-a37f-b3b29917db05","2024-01-12T21:39:40.927+00:00","2024-10-13T08:56:10.030+00:00",[],"Toronto-Canada
Toronto, Canada
Barbara Muskat","ARTICLE
[
[],[],[145
[
[38
i10Index":44,"i10IndexLast5Year":21
"hindexLast5Year":58
},{"1991":47,"1992":48,"1993":48,"1994":49,"1995":50,"1996":51,"1997":48,"1998":52,"1999":53,"2000":53,"2001":54},{"1991":44,"1993":50,"1994":57,"1995":58,"1996":59,"1997":60},{"1991":63,"1993":64,"1994":65,"1995":66,"1996":67,"1997":68
"8
97-114","1998-09-01",1998,false
"7604f25d-f45f-4047-9af8-f753b57456d9","2023-12-17T15:24:43.178+00:00","2025-01-13T23:39:27.664+00:00",[],"Book-Review-Group-Treatment-with-Troubled-Youth-A-Cognitive-Behavioral-Interactive-Approach-By-Sheldon-D-Rose-1998-Sage-Publications
"Book Review: Group Treatment with Troubled Youth: A Cognitive-Behavioral, Interactive Approach. The groups cater to troubled immigrant children, and attempt to help the children in their adjustment to the biculturation process. In the investigation, the peer culture and individual processes nurtured within the groups are examined through observation and drawing evaluations. It was found that the drawings and comments to the drawings were valuable tools to elicit the children's feelings and reactions to the group. In the end, it was felt that the bilingual feature of the group and group format, itself, were helpful to the children, and that the coed and short-term aspects of the group were less helpful to the children.
Observations of a short-term, coed, bilingual group therapy for latency-age, Spanish-speaking immigrant children
10.1007/BF02447580","2024-12-23T23:22:25.006+00:00","https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/BF02447580",[456
"5efa8357-687f-4593-bdfb-77304968d607",[92],[460
"6453c606-dc71-4bc6-a6c5-32467844f9eb","2024-02-10T22:44:56.313+00:00",[
San Francisco School of Psychology, San Francisco
Chaya Rivka Love Mayerson
[
[],[],[481
[
[38
i10Index":44,"i10IndexLast5Year":21
"hindexLast5Year":58
},{"1991":47,"1992":48,"1993":48,"1994":49,"1995":50,"1996":51,"1997":48,"1998":52,"1999":53,"2000":53,"2001":54},{"1991":44,"1993":50,"1994":57,"1995":58,"1996":59,"1997":60},{"1991":63,"1993":64,"1994":65,"1995":66,"1996":67,"1997":68
"181-191","1997-12-01
"15209ea3-56b4-46da-9c2c-a21db1e144f1","2024-01-03T17:42:53.037+00:00","2025-01-15T23:22:21.721+00:00",[],"Editor-s-Note
"Editor's Note
10.1023/A:1014702122449","Author affiliation is blank","https://link.springer.com/article/10.1023/A:1014702122449",[511
"006853d3-a35b-4465-9c5b-c19de5da1b0e",[92],[
Edward S. Termed “duo therapy” by some, or “peer pair psychotherapy” by others, this method has been successfully employed with children who were unsuitable for the traditional eight-member treatment groups. While in some instances, such mini-groups were used with fearful and withdrawn youngsters, in others, they were found helpful in preparing unduly impulsive ones, for membership in larger groups. Adventure therapy is a term used throughout the literature, referring to the use of outdoor education and recreation activities as a form of therapy. Implicit to the practice of adventure therapy is the fact that the treatment takes places in a wilderness as opposed to an institutional setting. The use of adventure therapy has been the most popular in the treatment of adolescent populations. Due to its popularity, adventure therapy has attracted a great deal of research which has repeatedly found both anecdotally and empirically that the treatment of adolescents in a wilderness setting is more effective than in a clinical setting. The effectiveness of treating adolescents in a wilderness setting using adventure therapy is well documented; but not well understood. This article will examine the dynamics of groups in clinical and wilderness settings and offer insights about the greater effectiveness offered in a wilderness setting.","Kể từ đầu thế kỷ, liệu pháp mạo hiểm đã được sử dụng như một biện pháp bổ sung trong điều trị nhiều nhóm người có vấn đề tâm thần. The underlying premise of such groups is that children placed among peers will often display a broad spectrum of clinically significant behaviors that would not otherwise be evident. The information that emerges from a diagnostic peer group may validate the diagnostic profile obtained from other sources, such as the child's mental status examination. In addition, a suspected or tentative diagnosis may be clarified or elaborated upon as a result of a diagnostic peer group. Finally, the diagnostic peer group has potential for providing previously unsuspected data concerning the child's behavior.
