Due to their strong time-varying properties, CEOAEs were studied with the wavelet transform. Results obtained in our study give a clear indication that time-frequency characteristics of CEOAEs are not fully developed in preterm babies and reach the complete maturation at about 38 wks post-conception. We have specifically chosen the sixteen most important prognostic factors for conducting the experiments. The experimental results show with strong evidence that the chosen prognostic factors have limited discriminatory capability, and hence their use in prognosis may not improve the prognostic efficiency satisfactorily. For this purpose, we employ the measurement of umbilical artery (UA) and umbilical vein (UV) oxygen saturation and pH in an unselected population, and calculate preductal oxygen saturation at birth. The study analyzes umbilical cord blood samples of 1537 live-born singleton neonates. Oxygen saturation, pH and base excess were measured. Preductal oxygen saturation was computed with an empirical equation. Acidosis was defined as below the value of 7.09 for UA pH or -10.50 mmol/L for base excess. The normality condition of the data is searched by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Then, the importance of individual indices is determined by using principal component analysis (PCA) method. A local decision technique, k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) method is employed for the indication of adverse conditions. Finally, RBF is used to combine the local information regions. It is verified that the base excess in UA is the most informative component and the local oxygen saturation information is valuable for the indication of adverse conditions.
Using of local information for diagnosing intranatal adverse conditions by pulse oximetry
10.1109/IEMBS.2001.1019642","https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/1019642/","https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=1019642",[255,270,285
"8e424cec-3c1e-4be7-a0ef-1e0ed57d1b21",[66],[259
"30d2c63f-b918-4705-8356-6d3be809ca12","2023-12-19T08:21:08.798+00:00",[
Mathematics Engineering Department, Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey
N. The resulting simulations produced effects that mirrored the closed- and open-loop characteristics of the experimental response trajectories. This supports the use of an internal feedback loop for the inversion of external systems in the nAMT model. Other control-systems models (both AMT and feedback-error learning) were unable to reproduce the observed disparity between closed- and open-loop results without fundamental modification. A low internal feedback loop-gain, incorporating a substantial derivative component, caused this effect. This low gain produced acceptable performance due to the relatively low target bandwidth used in the study, allowing the feedback control component to function. Maintenance of the loop-gain at the lowest possible levels is thought to maximize the internal stability of the inverse. The simulation work confirmed that the nAMT model is capable of reproducing human behavior under a wide range of conditions.
Modeling human open-loop tracking behavior
10.1109/IEMBS.2001.1019071","https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/1019071/","https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=1019071",[338,353,365,377
"79557e79-4a07-4a42-9182-84b7d72996ae",[66],[342
"a9f94e8c-9a5d-4a09-8f2a-404431e52fe8","2023-12-19T06:20:35.259+00:00",[
Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand
J.H. We investigate noninvasively the compensatory cardiovascular control mechanisms, which develop following transplant. ECG, continuous blood pressure and respiration are recorded in supine position and during transition to standing, and analyzed in time and frequency domains. 25 recordings were obtained from 13 male HT patients at time after transplant (TAT) ranging 0.5-65 months. We observed an interesting evolution with TAT in heart rate response to active standing: from no response, via a slow response, to a fast increase. Another important finding was the existence of very high frequency (VHF) peaks in the power spectra of HR and BP fluctuations, in 8 recordings. Analysis using bicoherence indicates that some of those peaks are harmonics of respiration, while others originate from an unknown source. Our results indicate that with TAT, compensatory cardiovascular mechanisms develop in a biphasic process towards seemingly normal control. We found evidence for the direct effect of the old SA node on the transplanted one, yet no indication of vagal reinnervation. The presence of VHF peaks, unrelated to respiration, suggests the existence of a yet unknown control mechanism, which may be masked in normal subjects.
Heart transplantation-spectral and bispectral analysis
10.1109/IEMBS.2001.1018981","https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/1018981/","https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=1018981",[448,463,478,490
"b4b46e45-7445-4c9e-846c-a981cecb2716",[66],[452
"d6db1b59-7c8f-4920-a5dd-db61f1d7415f","2023-12-19T05:58:28.499+00:00",[
Heart-Lung Transplant Unit, Rabin Medical Center, Petach Tikva, Israel
D. Students can experiment with the system by changing selected model parameters with sliders, immediately observing the resulting changes in system behavior. Several applet presentations are constructed for a model, each presentation designed for a different learning objective by displaying a subset of output variables and making a subset of parameters available for adjustment. Presentations may include control buttons, a graph for output display, sliders to adjust parameters, a legend table comparing parameter settings for multiple experiments, and an animation of the model linked to the calculations. The applet design is highly modular to facilitate replication with different models. Two architectures were tested and compared: 1) a single applet containing all the functions listed above embedded as a single unit in the Web page and 2) a cluster of individual applets of different functional types (control buttons, graph, sliders, etc.) distributed over the Web page and linked by a control object having no visible interface.
Presenting systems concepts in Physiology and Pharmacology with simulation applets in Java
10.1109/IEMBS.2001.1019731","https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/1019731/","https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=1019731",[612,627,639
"b3264415-23aa-482b-b50f-5bdc308b92ba",[66],[616
"0d61c52d-784b-4d98-84dd-57c655281742","2024-01-16T11:27:24.340+00:00",[
Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, CA, USA
J.M. The method is based on the detection of multi-channel surface EMG signals (with linear electrode arrays) and intramuscular recorded single MU action potentials (MUAPs). Intramuscular electrodes are inserted taking into account the MU structural properties (innervation zone and tendon locations, length of the fibers), assessed by the linear array surface EMG detection. A technique for intramuscular EMG signal decomposition is used to identify single MUAP trains. The MUAPs obtained from the intramuscular EMG decomposition algorithm are used to trigger and average the multi-channel EMG signals. CV of single averaged surface MUAPs is estimated by the use of advanced signal processing methods based on multi-channel recordings which allow to consistently reduce the variance of CV estimates with respect to traditional two channel delay estimators. The number of averaged potentials can thus be reduced, improving temporal resolution. The technique proposed is tested with recordings from the tibialis anterior muscle of 11 volunteers. It is shown that the method allows the assessment of CV changes (fatigue) of single MUs as small as 0.1 m/s with a limited number of averages (temporal resolution of 1-2 seconds), leading to a consistent improvement with respect to traditional surface EMG spike triggered averaging techniques. The method has potential usefulness in a number of basic and applied research fields.
A spike triggered averaging technique for high resolution assessment of single motor unit conduction velocity changes during fatiguing voluntary contractions
10.1109/IEMBS.2001.1020381","https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/1020381/","https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=1020381",[689,704,719,731
"2a115a4b-34e0-4dbd-a3bd-af7f7265aaa1",[66],[693
"710fc2fe-ff91-48d0-ad8b-5f1bae0a038b","2023-12-19T06:14:30.554+00:00",[
Center for Sensory Motor Interaction, University of Aalborg, Aalborg, Denmark
L.
