The present evaluation is limited to the organic family of atmospherically important reactions. The work has been carried out by the authors under the auspices of the IUPAC Subcommittee on Gas Phase Kinetic Data Evaluation for Atmospheric Chemistry. Data sheets have been prepared for 171 thermal and photochemical reactions, containing summaries of the available experimental data with notes giving details of the experimental procedures. For each thermal reaction, a preferred value of the rate coefficient at 298 K is given together with a temperature dependence where possible. The selection of the preferred value is discussed and estimates of the accuracies of the rate coefficients and temperature coefficients have been made for each reaction. For each photochemical reaction the data sheets list the preferred values of the photoabsorption cross sections and the quantum yields of the photochemical reactions together with comments on how they were selected. The data sheets are intended to provide the basic physical chemical data needed as input for calculations which model atmospheric chemistry. Further, it describes in detail the adjustment of the values of the subset of constants on which the complete 1998 set of recommended values is based. The 1998 set replaces its immediate predecessor recommended by CODATA in 1986. The new adjustment, which takes into account all of the data available through 31 December 1998, is a significant advance over its 1986 counterpart. The standard uncertainties (i.e., estimated standard deviations) of the new recommended values are in most cases about 1\u002F5 to 1\u002F12 and in some cases 1\u002F160 times the standard uncertainties of the corresponding 1986 value. Moreover, in almost all cases the absolute values of the differences between the 1998 values and the corresponding 1986 values are less than twice the standard uncertainties of the 1986 values. It is based on the most accurate measurements of pressure-density-temperature (p,ρ,T), speed of sound, heat capacity, and vapor pressure which are currently available. A linear regression analysis and a nonlinear least squares fitting technique, based on the selected measurements, were used to determine the structure of the fundamental equation of state and the values of its 21 coefficients. The equation represents nearly all selected experimental data within their estimated accuracy with the exception of heat capacities and speed of sound in the region close to the critical point. Typical accuracies are ±0.05% for density, ±0.02% for the vapor pressure, or ±0.5 and ±1% for the heat capacity. This equation of state has been compared to equations established by other research groups by Annex 18 of the International Energy Agency (IEA) and has been selected as an international standard Our review includes 114 references to recent advanced studies. These data facilitated the confirmation of previously suggested trends in the molecular properties of the title compounds and a reliable estimation of the data of less-studied LnX3 molecules. On the basis of the collected data, a comparative analysis of the experimental and computational results has been performed. The dependence of the molar refraction on wavelength, temperature, and density is shown over an extended range. Based upon the electromagnetic theory of light an equation for the refractive index of water with wavelength, temperature, and density as independent variables is constructed. Its coefficients are directly deduced from all available experimental data by least-squares fit. The range of validity of wavelength is restricted by the theory for normal dispersion to 182 nm≤λ≤2770 nm. The range of temperature and density is given by the available experimental data. Interpolations between the single measured points are possible and the following range of validity can be recommended: for temperature −10 °C≤T≤500 °C and for density 0.0028 kg\u002Fm3 ≤ρ≤1045 kg\u002Fm3.
