JIBR highlights cutting edge research, new concepts and theories, fresh practical ideas and initiatives that can be readily applied to understand business strategies of Indian companies, both in and outside of India, as well as the business strategies of foreign firms operating within India. The journal publishes research pertaining to all functional aspects of business, such as marketing, finance, accounting, management information systems, human resource management, organizational behaviour, public systems, strategic management and services. JIBR publishes articles that facilitate a new understanding of Indian business while simultaneously making significant contributions to the theoretical advancement of the discipline. All articles appearing in the journal will be double-blind reviewed to ensure academic rigour and practical relevance. I have enormous respect for Dr. G. Shainesh, the Editor of the journal. Together with an impressive editorial review board, Shainesh has developed an efficient and helpful review board that helps to assure the quality of the journal and to help give it direction. Not only has this resulted in a journal with both practical and theoretical importance, it has also helped to set the tone for enhancing the research excellence of Indian schools of business and related disciplines with an interest in business and consumption phenomena in India. - Consistent with some of the other studies, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, trust and perceived enjoyment are found to be immediate direct determinants of customers’ attitude towards using Internet banking. Attitude, perceived risk, perceived enjoyment and trust determine the customers’ behavioural intentions to use Internet banking. Although the direct effect of perceived website design is significant only on perceived ease of use, its indirect effects are significant on perceived usefulness, attitude and behavioural intentions. Furthermore, perceived enjoyment exerts both direct and indirect effects on perceived usefulness but exerts only direct effect on perceived ease of use.
</jats:sec>
<jats:sec>
Research limitations/implications
– Generalizability of the research is a practical limitation in consumer research studies and the present study is not an exception to that. There is evidence of uni‐directional causalities from stock returns to FII flows across various sample periods. The paper attempts to establish whether net FII trading volume causes variations in stock market returns or vice versa.
Design/methodology/approach
Using daily data on three different measures of FII trading volume as proxy for FII trading behaviour and S&P CNX Nifty returns, Granger‐causality approach is applied to investigate the bi‐directional causality between net FII trades and returns.
Findings
Bi‐directional causality between net FII investment and Indian stock market return is observed. In general, the FIIs seem to be chasing the Indian stock market returns. It is found that FII trading behaviour resulting in heavy trading volumes may cause variations in stock market returns only in the very short‐term, but afterwards, it is the stock market returns which cause changes in FII trading behaviour.
Research limitations/implications
Since foreign equity investors monitor the movement of stock prices, and furthermore, the role of FIIs' exerting impact on Indian stock markets tends to be growing, the authorities will have to develop an environment where FIIs would maintain their positions with confidence, thereby making the markets, as well as investments, more stable. It is imperative that business gets on the right side of society rather than continuing to add to societal burdens, as is too often the case. Conscious capitalism is not synonymous with corporate social responsibility (CSR); since society is recognized as an important, even the primary stakeholder, the core business itself must by definition be socially responsible. China's physical infrastructure, while impressive, may have come at the cost of social investments (e.g. primary and secondary education). Empirical result shows that social investments are important for an economy's sustained growth, more than incentives to attract foreign direct investments. While the structure of the economy appears to be more promising for India, there is one enigmatic issue yet to be understood: China's path of economic development (agriculture to industry to services) has been demonstrated to be viable but India's path of development (almost directly agrarian to services‐based) may or may not be viable (the jury is still out).
