In 2022, the JTSE registered the international identifier Digital Object Identifier (DOI): 10.58334\u002Fvrtc.jtst and assigned DOI codes to all articles of the journal. The members of the Editorial Board of the JTSE are prestigious scientists and leading scientists from Vietnam and many countries in the world. The JTSE has been recognized by the Vietnam State Council for Professorship to score scientific articles in Chemistry, Medicine and Biology with scores ranging from 0-0.75 points.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp Thời gian chỉnh sửa và gửi lại kéo dài không quá 2 tuần, từ khi tác giả bài báo nhận được thông tin (Quá trình này có thể lặp lại tối đa 2 lần\u002F1 bài báo). Hip resurfacing arthroplasty (HRA) has emerged in recent years as an alternative to total hip arthroplasty (THA), but complications of HRA have limited the patient population to younger male patients with primary osteoarthritis and large hip anatomy. How the functional benefits of HRA in this population compare with those of THA is not entirely clear. The primary aim of this study was to determine whether there were differences in hip disability and patient satisfaction with surgery between these two groups at 2 years after surgery, using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and subjective measures of patient satisfaction. Additionally, we sought to determine whether there were differences in post-operative discharge disposition, revision rates, or adverse events. We searched an institutional database to identify patients undergoing unilateral HRA or THA between January 2007 and July 2011 who met today’s recommended criteria for HRA: younger male patients with large-enough hip anatomy to make surgery viable (a femoral head of at least 48 mm in HRA patients and, in THA patients, an acetabular shell size of 54 mm, the minimum outer shell size that could accommodate a femoral head component of 48 mm; for matching purposes, acetabular shell size in THA was used as a surrogate for the femoral head size used in HRA). We used propensity score matching to control for potentially confounding pre-operative variables and administered the Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS) survey, including its subdomains, at the 2-year mark. We also assessed differences between groups in Lower Extremity Activity Scale scores, 12-item Short Form Health Survey results, and answers regarding satisfaction with surgery. We calculated minimal detectable change, minimum clinically important change, and substantial clinical benefit using anchor-based techniques for multiple outcome measures. There were 251 patients in each group. HRA patients scored significantly higher than THA patients on the 2-year HOOS sports and recreation (92 versus 87, respectively) and on rates of overall satisfaction (94% versus 89%, respectively). The HRA group also had a greater chance of achieving minimum clinically important change (18.75 points) in the HOOS sports and recreation subdomains than the THA group (97% versus 91%). No significant difference was found in 6-month adverse event rates. HRA patients also had a significantly shorter mean hospital stay, a higher rate of discharge to home, and a lower incidence of a “significant” limp after surgery. HRA may provide a functional benefit in sports and recreation and greater satisfaction in patients who meet the current criteria for HRA. The purposes of this systematic review were (1) to examine the available literature on patient satisfaction after TKR, (2) to evaluate the quality of available evidence, and (3) to identify predictors of patient satisfaction after TKR. A systematic review of the MEDLINE database was performed. The initial search yielded 1219 studies. The inclusion criteria were English language, clinical outcome study with primary outcome related to TKR for osteoarthritis, and patient-reported satisfaction included as an outcome measure. Studies were assessed for demographics, methodology for reporting satisfaction, and factors influencing satisfaction. Two hundred eight studies, including 95,560 patients who had undergone TKR, met all inclusion and exclusion criteria; 112 (53.8%) of these studies were published in the past 3 years. Satisfaction was most commonly measured using an ordinal scale. Twenty-seven studies (13%) used a validated satisfaction survey. Eighty-three percent of studies reported more than 80% satisfaction. The most commonly reported predictor of satisfaction was post-operative patient-reported functional outcome. Pre-operative anxiety\u002Fdepression was the most common pre-operative predictor of dissatisfaction. There are numerous studies reporting patient satisfaction after TKR, and publication on the topic has been increasing over the past decade. However, the majority of studies represent lower levels of evidence and use heterogeneous methods for measuring satisfaction, and few studies use validated satisfaction instruments. Such modifications may include improved femoral rollback, improved femoral dislocation resistance, minimized wear, and improved longevity. In this study, we compared a newer PS knee design that incorporates a left and right specific femoral component and smoother trochlear groove to improve patellofemoral mechanics with an older PS design in order to assess patellofemoral pain, manipulation rates, and revision rates. Using an institutional database, we retrospectively identified TKAs performed by the same surgeon using the Logic® PS knee system and the older Optetrak PS knee system (Exactech Inc., Gainesville, FL, USA), with a minimum 2-year follow-up. Clinical outcomes for each cohort were measured using the Knee Society Clinical Rating System, University of California Los Angeles Activity Scale, pain visual analog scale (VAS), Veterans Rand 12-Item Health Survey, and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index. In addition, rates of anterior knee pain, manipulation, and revision were compared between the two knee systems, and a Kaplan–Meier survivorship curve defining failure as need for revision was calculated to allow comparison between the cohorts. From 2000 to 2018, there were 1482 TKAs performed using the Logic PS (not counting 12 patients who had died) and 445 in the Optetrak PS group (not counting 20 patients who had died). In the Logic PS and Optetrak PS groups, respectively, the average age at operation was 66.7 years and 68.6 years and the average body mass index was 30.8 and 31.2. Pain VAS scores were significantly lower in the Logic PS group than in the Optetrak group (1.72 vs. 2.75 out of 10, respectively). There was also a significant difference in the percentages of patients reporting anterior knee pain in the Logic group, as compared with the Optetrak group (5.6% vs. 11.8%, respectively). In addition, manipulation rates differed significantly between the Logic and Optetrak groups (0.34% vs. 10.70%, respectively). The revision rates were 1.15% for the Logic group and 2.0% for the Optetrak group. However, there was a significant difference in rates of revision performed because of osteolysis, favoring the Logic group (0.07% vs. 0.6%). The Kaplan–Meier survivorship curve shows a significant difference in time until revision between the Logic and Optetrak groups. stabilization has become the accepted treatment for type II superior labral anterior and posterior (SLAP) lesions. Short-term results using a variety of techniques were promising, but most reports focus on motivated athletes. The purpose of our report is to evaluate the results of arthroscopic fixation of type II SLAP lesions in 21 patients who suffered a work-related injury and are receiving workers’ compensation. The hypothesis was that in patients with a single event trauma who were receiving workers’ compensation, clinical results would be inferior to those previously reported. Twenty-two consecutive workers’ compensation patients with type II SLAP lesions underwent arthroscopic stabilization between October 1994 and December 1996. All patients received suture anchors with nonabsorbable suture secured around the labrum for definitive fixation. Average age at surgery was 43 and average follow-up time was 27.9 months. Seventeen patients (89%) had an acromioplasty at the time of labral stabilization. Outcome was assessed by analysis of visual analog pain scale, simple shoulder test (SST) and general health status questionnaire (SF-36), subjective patient satisfaction, and ability to return to work. Visual analog pain scales improved by an average of 3 points although all patients had significant complaints of pain at follow-up. Simple shoulder test responses showed improvement in 9 out of 12 categories. The SF-36 results showed significant improvements only in the bodily pain category and role: physical category. Five patients required reoperation for persistent pain. However, only seven patients (437%) returned to work at their previous functional level, nine patients (47%) returned to work but at less strenuous jobs, and three patients (16%) did not return to work. Currently recommended treatment for type II SLAP lesions is arthroscopic stabilization. to play after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction can increase risk for both ipsilateral graft rupture and contralateral ACL rupture. The risk for injury of the contralateral knee after ACL reconstruction could be nearly double that of ipsilateral graft rupture. We sought to identify independent, patient-related risk factors for contralateral ACL rupture following primary ACL reconstruction. A national database was queried for patients who underwent primary ACL reconstruction from 2007 to 2015 with a minimum of 2 years of post-operative follow-up (n = 12,044). Patients who underwent subsequent primary ACL reconstruction on the contralateral extremity were then identified. A multivariate binomial logistic regression analysis was utilized to evaluate patient-related risk factors for contralateral ACL rupture, including demographic and comorbidity variables. Adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were calculated for each risk factor. Of the 3707 patients who had a minimum of 2 years of database activity and comprised the study group, 204 (5.5%) experienced a contralateral ACL rupture requiring reconstruction. Independent risk factors for contralateral ACL rupture included age less than 20 years, female gender, tobacco use, and depression. Obesity, morbid obesity, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and a history of anxiety were not significant predictors of contralateral injury. We were able to adequately power an analysis to identify several significant patient-related risk factors for contralateral ACL rupture after primary ACL reconstruction, including younger age, female gender, tobacco use, and depression.
