Những bài báo không đúng quy cách hoặc có nội dung không phù hợp hoặc vi phạm bản quyền sẽ bị từ chối (Ban Thư ký thông báo phản hồi đến tác giả trong vòng 1 tuần). Những bài báo đủ điều kiện, được Ban Thư ký tòa soạn chuyển đến Ban Biên tập có cùng chuyên môn với nội dung bài báo để đề xuất người phản biện. Các phản biện gởi nhận xét cho Ban Thư ký. Nếu ý kiến đồng ý đăng và cần chỉnh sửa, Ban Thư ký sẽ thông tin đến tác giả chỉnh sửa theo yêu cầu của người phản biện. Thời gian chỉnh sửa và gửi lại kéo dài không quá 2 tuần, từ khi tác giả bài báo nhận được thông tin (Quá trình này có thể lặp lại tối đa 2 lần\u002F1 bài báo). Khi có sự thống nhất, đồng ý của người phản biện; bài báo được tiếp tục đăng theo qui trình.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">3. Ban Thư ký tổng hợp các bản thảo đã được tác giả hoàn thiện sau thẩm định trình Ban Biên tập xem xét, Tổng Biên tập phê duyệt, quyết định bài đăng theo các tiêu chí: sự phù hợp nội dung với tôn chỉ và mục đích, thể loại bài viết (ưu tiên các bài có bài có nghiên cứu chuyên sâu, hàm lượng khoa học cao), đóng góp mới bài báo, bài báo được ưu tiên đăng trong số gần nhất của Tạp chí theo thứ tự: tính thời sự, chất lượng bài báo và thời gian gửi bài.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">2. Cancer multi-drug resistance (MDR) is thought to arise from over-expression of efflux transporters on cancer cells’ plasma membranes. Recently, microparticles (MP) were found to play a major role in mediating the resistance to antineoplastic agents. Microparticles can confer MDR phenotype to cancer cells though 3 complimentary pathways: 1) Intercellular transfer of P-gp and MRP1; 2) Intercellular transfer of regulatory nucleic acids that ensure acquisition of MDR phenotype; and 3) Internal sequestration of anticancer drugs to reduce the amount of free active drug. Compounds that inhibit MP formation that are currently under investigation include calpain inhibitors, RhoA inhibitors, ROCK inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, pantethine, glutaminase inhibitors, some anti-platelet drugs and some lipid-lowering agents. The reported clinical manifestations include heart failure, arrhythmias and cardioembolic events. Left ventricular and biventricular non-compaction are likewise rare but more common than isolated right ventricular non-compaction. Pulmonary hypertension is associated with biventricular non-compaction more commonly but not with isolated right ventricular non-compaction. University of Santo Tomas Hospital We report a case of a 25 year old female who presented with progressive dyspnea for one year accompanied by easy fatigability. She denied chest pain, palpitations, pedal edema, paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea and orthopnea. She had a brother who died at a young age reportedly due to a cardiac illness which was not fully worked-up. Her 2D echocardiogram showed excessive prominent trabeculations and deep inter-trabecular recesses in the right ventricular wall with depressed right ventricular systolic function by tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion and fractional area change. Color Doppler studies also showed severe tricuspid regurgitation, pulmonic regurgitation and severe pulmonary hypertension. Secondary causes of pulmonary hypertension like connective tissue diseases, left heart disease, chronic thrombotic\u002Fembolic disease, anomalous cardiac and pulmonary shunts and lung disease were excluded. Abnormal accumulation and aggregation of beta amyloid peptide (Aβ) eventually lead to the formation and cerebral deposition of amyloid plaques, the major pathological hallmark in AD. Aβ1-40 and Aβ1-42 are the predominant components of senile plaques formed in AD brain. The aggregation of Aβ is associated with neurodegeneration, loss of cognitive ability, and premature death. Understanding the aggregation mechanism and how to inhibit aggregate formation is therefore crucial. In light of the proposed link between oxidative stress, unregulated immune response and neurodegeneration, it is suggested that use of antioxidants may be beneficial for inhibiting Aβ fibrillogenesis. Therefore, endogenous and dietary antioxidants may offer a protective or even therapeutic alternative against amyloidosis. In this study, several compounds isolated from natural products are screened for the in vitro antiamyloidogenic activity. Novel electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry (MS)-based methodologies are employed to assess the noncovalent interactions between the Aβ and isolated components from natural products. The specificity and the stability of these noncovalent complexes were examined under different experimental conditions, whereas their relative binding strength was assessed. In addition, MS proteolytic mapping was employed to provide information on the noncovalent binding site of the bioactive molecule on the Aβ residues. Cardiac troponin I (cTnI) plays a critical role in regulation of cardiac function. The physiological effect of cTnI, as an inhibitory subunit of troponin complex, is to prevent the interaction between myosin heavy chain heads and actins, i.e. the cross-bridge formation, and to ensure a proper relaxation of cardiac myofilaments. In pathological conditions, the deficiency of cTnI or mutations in cTnI especially in the C-terminus of cTnI is associated with diastolic dysfunction caused by myofibril hypersensitivity to Ca2+. Our laboratory has generated cTnI knockout mouse model to investigate the cellular and molecular function of cTnI and created cTnI mutant disease mouse models to explore the pathophysiology caused by cTnI mutations in the heart. Here, we present our recent studies on physiological function of cTnI in the heart and the pathological consequences caused by the cTnI mutations in the diseased heart using the transgenic mouse models. The mechanisms underlying diastolic dysfunction and heart failure caused by cTnI mutations are explored in cell-based assays and in transgenic animal models. Retrospective Study. The data were collected from the cardio pulmonary exercise testing and physical activity questionnaire at Department of Pediatrics Cardiology and Department of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation, U.Z. Hospital, Leuven, Belgium. Exercise testing was performed on a treadmill and respiratory gas exchange was measured on a breath by breath technique using mass spectrometry (Marquette MGA 1100, Milwaukee, USA). Similarly, Subjects with surgically repaired tetralogy of fallot compared to normal have mean and standard deviation of ventilatory anaerobic threshold averaged 27.77 (3.09) ml kg-1 min-1 and 30.96 (2.76) ml kg-1 min-1 and maximal oxygen uptake (peak vo2) averaged 30.96 (2.76) ml min-1 kg-1 and 50.59 (4.97) ml min-1 kg-1.The unpaired t- test showed a significant difference for maximal oxygen uptake (p = 0.0005) and ventilator anaerobic threshold (p = \u003C0.0001) in patients with operated TOF compared to normal controls. The habitual level of physical activity was log transformed. There was no significance difference for physical activity (p = 0.9299) in patient with Non-operated VSD [averaged 0.68 (0.11)] compared to Normal controls [average 0.68 (0.07)]. There was a significant difference for physical activity (p =0.0043) in patients with surgically repaired TOF [averaged 0.63(0.12)] compared to normal control [averaged 0.72(0.05)] Exercise performance was reduced in patients with operated tetralogy of fallot .One of the contributing factor for reduced exercise performance seems to be reduced physical activity. Calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor (CCOT) is rare developmental odontogenic pathology. The first description of lesion was given in 1962. Various terminologies and classifications have been proposed for description of the lesion. CCOT has extraosseous and intraosseous variants. Clinically it usually presents as a slow growing painless swelling of maxilla or mandible. It commonly involves anterior region of jaws, shows no gender predilection. Radiographically the lesion has variable appearance. The most common presentation is a well defined unilocular radiolucency associated with irregular calcification. Presence of ghost cells with proliferative odontogenic epithelium is the characteristic feature of the lesion. To date, CAD\u002FCAM is the only way of producing implant components from high-strength ceramics such as densely sintered alumina and partially stabilized zirconia. The accuracy can be measured by vertical fit of CAD\u002FCAM frameworks ranged from 1 to 27μm which was significantly better than cast implant frameworks. In addition, a similar level of fit was observed for implant CAD\u002FCAM frameworks produced from zirconia and titanium. Major aorto-pulmonary collaterals were demonstrated on hemodynamics study. Patient is stable and living a normal life but advised to avoid moderate to heavy strenuous activities. Detection of subgingival calculus is critical for successful treatment outcome in the management of periodontal patients. The aim of this study was to detect subgingival calculus using manual and electronic probe and to compare the reliability and the accuracy of both methods. The study was carried out in vitro on thirty-two extracted teeth with calculus mounted in frasaco model. A total of 192 sites on six surfaces of the teeth bucally and lingually were recorded for the presence of subgingival calculus. Manual probing of calculus depended on tactile sensation and experience; where as electronic probing gave sound and light signal. The results showed that at the depth of 1-3 mm, manual probing could detect 62.7% of calculus and electronic probing could detect more at 77.1%. At the deeper sites of 4-6mm, the ability for detection using electronic probing reduced to 14.1% with failure for detection at ≥ 7mm depth. However manual probing recorded more at 25% for 4-6 mm calculus and 4.7% at ≥7mm. Manual and electronic probing has different sensitivity in detecting subgingival calculus with electronic probing being more sensitive at shallow sites and failed to detect calculus at deeper sites. It also has difficulty to differentiate between calculus and other roughness on tooth surfaces. These findings highlighted the accuracy and reliability of manual detection for deeper calculus. Redesigning calibration and length of electronic probe can improve its usage.
