The study reported here is the first to shed light on the usage of IT in the Saudi supermarket industry and to report outcomes which will set the scene for further investigation. This study was conducted to investigate the use of IT in Saudi supermarkets, the barriers to usage and the benefits gained in their business. The methods selected for this study were personal interviews and questionnaires with the MIS managers of the 21 supermarkets listed in the 1995‐1996 Saudi Business trade directory published by Kompass.
Information technology in Saudi Arabia’s supermarket chains
[]
10.1108/09590550010337292","PUBLICATION","VERIFIED","2024-06-25T23:33:12.444+00:00","Auto Verify",[131],"EN","https://www.emerald.com/insight/content/doi/10.1108/09590550010337292/full/html",[134,149
"63aeea00-ed32-4a84-9bdb-6368dca53d9a",[],[138
"509778dc-1697-419c-b106-abf69332b043
[
Mohammed A. Since holiday shopping has long been considered promotion intensive and multichannel shopping is increasing, it is important to understand whether consumers respond differently to price promotions from these two different channels. The paper aims to examine whether the extent of price promotions that consumers perceive in online and offline channels and their sensitivity to such price promotions influences their holiday spending in each channel.
Design/methodology/approach
A public telephone survey was conducted to collect data during the month of December 2006. Nevertheless, to date, sustainable packaged foods are not always the first option when consumers go shopping. This paper analyses how environmental concern moderates the role played by external factors – preference towards sustainable retailers and trust in sustainable producers – in determining consumer purchase intentions for sustainable packaged foods. Consumer involvement in eco-friendly labels, increasingly present in food packages, is investigated as indirectly impacting pro-environmental purchase intentions.Design/methodology/approachAn online survey administered to a sample of Italian food shoppers is used for the empirical analysis. A total of 278 structured questionnaires were modelled using a structural equation modelling approach.FindingsFindings show that producers and retailers' policies in favour of sustainability are key in determining consumers' sustainable purchase intentions. Further, coherent uses of labels and logos in light of sustainability can support consumer purchase decisions. Relevant is the influence played by the environmental concern in both supporting pro-environmental purchase intentions and in amplifying the trust in sustainable producers-purchase intentions path.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the literature on sustainability showing how producers and retailers may together influence consumers' pro-environmental purchase intentions. Findings extend the retail literature on the impact of producers and retailers' policies on consumers' sustainable purchases. Further, environmental concern is investigated in its moderating role on the impact of external factors on consumers' pro-environmental purchase intentions.","2026-03-27T08:02:43.789+00:00",[131],"http://www.emerald.com/ijrdm/article/49/9/1312-1329/151486",[1326,1345,1362
"592676b4-8c5c-4b0f-adfa-431bf3013d1f",[],[1330
"39fd84bc-d8fb-42f4-9a63-b128b979c8e2
[
Department In order to distinguish itself in the marketplace as an independent retailer with an acute sense of site and to maximise the impact of its outlets in a diverse range of locations, Jigsaw has deliberately commissioned a series of designers to create a series of memorable and challenging interiors with much resulting critical and financial success. This paper examines the work of two contrasting architects and their interior work, highlighting the individualistic approach to the high street taken by Jigsaw. This proactive attitude taken to both the place and face of design in its outlets has allowed Jigsaw both to tailor its image as required and to add perceived value to its merchandise. This paper examines the impact that design has had in facilitating this success.
","
Arts and crafts and the purists: two contrasting approaches to designing for the British fashion environment","Nghệ thuật và thủ công và những người thuần tuý: hai cách tiếp cận khác nhau trong thiết kế cho môi trường thời trang Anh
10.1108/09590559810231805","2025-01-30T16:47:11.960+00:00",[131],[446],"https://www.emerald.com/insight/content/doi/10.1108/09590559810231805/full/html",[2185
"d3812b02-a553-434e-b057-1c80d70dbe0d",[],[2189
"9b6277c2-7208-4d86-9cd4-f284a9efd305
[
Sally Stewart is a Lecturer at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow School of Art and University of Glasgow, Glasgow, UK",[
SallyStewart
[
[2207,2211,2215
[
[
[
},[2220
[
],[2226,2233
[
[58],[62,63,64
[
[78,79],[82,83
i10Index":88,"i10IndexLast5Year":88
"hindexLast5Year":88
2020":86,"2021":87},{"1990":91,"1991":91,"1992":92,"1993":93,"1994":92,"1995":91,"1996":94,"1997":86,"1998":94,"1999":95,"2000":94,"2001":93,"2002":87,"2003":87,"2004":96,"2005":97,"2006":98,"2007":87,"2008":99,"2009":100,"2010":94,"2011":101,"2012":96,"2013":93,"2019":88},{"2019":102},{"2019":106},"1998-09-01",1998,[78,65],[2249,2252,2255,2258,2261,2264,2267,2270,2273,2276,2279,2282,2285,2288,2291,2294,2297,2300,2303,2306,2309,2312,2315,2319,2322
"A + U (1997, “John Pawson: gallery for clothing; Calvin Klein NY”, A+U Blueprint, Vol. 323, August, pp. 128‐32.",{
"The Architectural Review (1996), Vol. 200 No. 1193, July, pp. 1‐5.",{
"Blueprint (1991, “Storefront art”, Designers Journal, Vol. 80, September, pp. 54‐5.",{
"Brogan, J. Efficient consumer response (ECR) standards are becoming a common method used to increase the supermarket supply chain efficiencies that are driving logistics trends within the industry. The trends include expanded service requirements, mass customization, customer loyalty and private labeling, delivery options and increased challenges in diverse markets. Reverse logistics, electronic point of sale data collection and management of supply chain by third‐ and fourth‐party logistics providers are also becoming increasingly important for the supermarket industry.
Practical implications
Advancements in transportation and storage technologies, including breakthrough technologies to improve supermarket operation to the level of leading automobile manufacturers, present increased challenges and opportunities to the supermarket industry. In addition, changing consumer tastes offer companies in developed countries as well as developing countries like India, the chance to garner increased revenues. It is imperative for supermarkets to heed changing buying habits, particularly in developed countries, which have highly mature/competitive markets. Although supermarkets within developed and developing countries may face different challenges, consumers everywhere still focus on value, convenience, variety and a better shopping experience.
Originality/value
This paper provides increased understanding of the strategic retailing and distribution issues present in the supermarket industry and examines a number of significant business questions pertaining to logistical trends.
