effects of these fears on each other to reduce these increasing effects and minimise the mental barriers for potential entrepreneurs. Therefore, this research is beneficial to strengthen international entrepreneurial personality and to reduce the shadows of fears on entrepreneurs’ minds. To address this purpose the international tourism industry has been investigated in the emerging economy of Iran.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper is organised based on experts' opinions, and then factors are identified by literature review and are finalised through the Delphi method with a panel of practical and academic experts. These fears are categorised using a questionnaire and factor analysis (FA) technique. The respondents were entrepreneurship students and tourism entrepreneurs. Subsequently, the effect and importance of fears of failure are scored and ranked by some experts. These fears were analysed through decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method. The results presented the effects of fears of failure in the international entrepreneurial in the tourism industry and the relationship amongst them.
Findings
The first two fears are respectively “fears of future” which are caused by the unclear situation; and “fear of losing credit” that is due to the importance of “personal relationships” in Iranians culture. As pointed out by results, “fear of future” is the most effective group of factors that may lead to other fears too. This fear seems important in the international entrepreneurial tourism industry because of future ambiguity.
Originality/value
This study indicates the relations between groups of fears and offers some practical and applicable solutions to reduce these effects. The
perception of a “finance gap” has led to the creation of
financial institutions to address it, few of which now survive. Examines
the management practices of some in the UK and the USA, which have not
only survived, but also appear to be both filling “the gap”
and investing successfully. Identifies a number of resources other than
finance which these organizations have found it necessary to supply in
order to generate success among their investee businesses, and a number
of common investment management practices. Finds the issue of the
finance gap to be inseparable from issues of other resource deficiencies
within young firms. Suggests that policy makers might valuably heed the
experience of organizations which have learned, often painfully, how the
finance gap might, and might not, be filled.
Managing organizations to address the finance gap
10.1108/13552559510100666","2024-07-24T23:44:42.449+00:00",[120],"https://www.emerald.com/insight/content/doi/10.1108/13552559510100666/full/html",[587
"ff92b4b8-46b5-4e1f-a966-eb8565b97012",[],[591
"f55f065c-c1c3-4e1a-88d4-4ecc4c6141d3
"a4355ff9-8bbf-4f2e-83b4-614a851d9947","2024-01-07T17:13:58.970+00:00","2024-07-24T23:44:42.465+00:00",[],"University-of-Stirling-Stirling-Scotland
University of Stirling, Stirling, Scotland
SimonHarris
[
[],[],[614,621
[
[84,85],[88,89
[
[63],[67,68
i10Index":18,"i10IndexLast5Year":18
"hindexLast5Year":18
},{"1996":94,"1997":95,"1998":47,"1999":96,"2000":47,"2001":95,"2002":96,"2003":94,"2004":97,"2005":47,"2006":98,"2007":98,"2008":99,"2009":96,"2010":98,"2011":95,"2012":99,"2013":94},{},{
"1
63-82
1995-12-01",1995,[642,645,648,652,656,659,662,665,668,672,675,678,682,685,688,691,694,697,701,705,709,712,715,718,721,725,729,733,736,740,743,746,749,753,757,760,763,766,769,773,776,779,782,785,788,792,795,798,801,805,808,811,814,818,821,825,829,832,835,839,842,845,848,852,855,859,862,866
"Advisory Committee on Science and Technology (ACOST) (1990), The Enterprise Challenge: Overcoming
Barriers to Growth in Small Firms, HMSO, London.",{
One of the primary reasons recognised by local government for this poor economic standing has been low levels of innovation within indigenous small to medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs). These SMEs have difficulties in growing and exporting or being part of successful supply chains. The aim of this paper is to explore how innovation is successfully incorporated or hindered in SMEs within an EU peripheral region. An innovation model was applied in a multiple case study methodology involving 41 SMEs. Both quantitative and qualitative data were gathered and analysed. The paper concludes that SMEs must strategically plan for innovation and move beyond continuous improvement, or “kaizen”, and states that such plans must avoid quick fixes and address the underlying cultural barriers to innovation, such as organisational structure, owner‐manager leadership issues, a lack of empowerment and lack of use of employees' ideas and suggestions for innovation.
Barriers to innovation within small firms in a peripheral location
10.1108/13552550410536780",[120],"https://www.emerald.com/insight/content/doi/10.1108/13552550410536780/full/html",[1576,1593,1609
"b54f1a78-7c8f-45b1-aef6-beb15daf904a",[],[1580
"096d25bb-830e-4ae6-8152-3f87ac6efdd9","2023-11-29T13:02:54.276+00:00","2025-06-11T22:22:21.862+00:00",[],"School-of-Business-Organisation-and-Management-University-of-Ulster-Jordanstown-Belfast-UK
School of Business Organisation and Management, University of Ulster Jordanstown, Belfast, UK
ThomasMcConvery
"315cc8f6-6acc-4389-8d51-a269431ba4f9",[],[1597
"cc87f663-f0dc-48dd-8312-2c971c861564","2024-04-14T11:54:50.791+00:00",[],"Invest-Northern-Ireland-Belfast-UK
Invest Northern Ireland, Belfast, UK
GrenArmstrong
"87e0b9b3-2e5a-46c0-a185-69fede411eed",[],[1613
[
"RodneyMcAdam
[
[],[],[1630,1637
[
[84,85],[88,89
[
[63],[67,68
i10Index":18,"i10IndexLast5Year":18
"hindexLast5Year":18
},{"1996":94,"1997":95,"1998":47,"1999":96,"2000":47,"2001":95,"2002":96,"2003":94,"2004":97,"2005":47,"2006":98,"2007":98,"2008":99,"2009":96,"2010":98,"2011":95,"2012":99,"2013":94},{},{},"2004-06-01",2004,[1652,1655,1659,1663,1667,1670,1674,1678,1682,1686,1690,1693,1697,1700,1704,1708,1711,1714,1718,1721,1725,1729,1733,1737,1740,1743,1746,1749,1752,1756,1760,1763,1766,1769,1772,1776,1780,1784,1787,1791,1795
"Anderson, A., Jack, S. and McAuley, A. Qualitative data were collected through intensive, one‐to‐one interviews conducted in Cantonese. Three propositions concerning growth and development were developed. The first proposition is that for sustained growth towards a size of 100 employees the structure may remain predominantly simple, but there must also be some elements of adhocracy or professional bureaucracy, and the strategic apex must want the company to grow. Second, for a manufacturing company to grow to a point beyond 100 employees, its predominant form must change from simple structure to machine bureaucracy. Third, for sustained, robust growth once a manufacturing company has reached well over 100 employees in size, it either requires elements of divisional form structure, or special human resourcefulness manifested as exceptionally good staff relationships and business contacts.
Structure and growth in small Hong Kong enterprises
10.1108/13552559610153243",[120],"https://www.emerald.com/insight/content/doi/10.1108/13552559610153243/full/html",[1815,1832
"39fe0767-324a-4a3b-8ca3-16bee3e2cb1a",[],[1819
"a7b5de2c-7059-469d-9bbb-57c2fb199a69
"630b0d57-9c09-4bbf-900a-5b2b9506dd32","2024-07-24T22:57:21.599+00:00",[],"Department-of-Business-and-Management-City-University-of-Hong-Kong-Kowloon-Tong-Hong-Kong
Department of Business and Management, City University of Hong Kong, Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong
AgnesLau
"b17c33d5-f6bf-46e3-a8c9-53446d793dc4",[],[1836
"f6c9a487-30de-4a54-8121-49f70a8ac1d7
[
"RobinSnell
[
[],[],[1854,1861
[
[84,85],[88,89
[
[63],[67,68
i10Index":18,"i10IndexLast5Year":18
"hindexLast5Year":18
},{"1996":94,"1997":95,"1998":47,"1999":96,"2000":47,"2001":95,"2002":96,"2003":94,"2004":97,"2005":47,"2006":98,"2007":98,"2008":99,"2009":96,"2010":98,"2011":95,"2012":99,"2013":94},{},{
"2
29-47
1996-12-01",1996,[1882,1885,1888,1891,1894,1897,1901,1904,1908,1912,1915
"Flamholtz, E. A key component in this focused on the corporate human resource function as a full business partner in project management and its contribution to the “bottom line”, a clear recognition of its positive strategic significance. The evidence suggests that prevailing competitive conditions determine the nature and direction of HRM’s strategic integration with a firms entrepreneurial goals. Where cost reduction strategies prevail the function is likely to institutionalize entrepreneurial goals determined elsewhere.
