This article reviews this progress, including recent innovations, focussing on those instruments for which the strongest research data on validity exists, and then addresses issues arising from their use in clinical settings.\u003C\u002Fjats:p>\u003C\u002Fjats:sec>\u003Cjats:sec>\u003Cjats:title>Findings\u003C\u002Fjats:title>\u003Cjats:p>Research studies have evaluated the ability of screens to prospectively identify cases of \u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">ASD\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content> in population‐based and clinically referred samples, as well as the accuracy of diagnostic instruments to map onto ‘gold standard’ clinical best estimate diagnosis. However, extension of the findings to clinical services must be done with caution, with a full understanding that instrument properties are sample‐specific. Furthermore, we are limited by the lack of a true test for \u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">ASD\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content> which remains a behaviourally defined disorder. In addition, screening and diagnostic instruments help clinicians least in the cases where they are most in want of direction, as their accuracy will always be lower for marginal cases.\u003C\u002Fjats:p>\u003C\u002Fjats:sec>\u003Cjats:sec>\u003Cjats:title>Conclusion\u003C\u002Fjats:title>\u003Cjats:p>Instruments help clinicians to collect detailed, structured information and increase accuracy and reliability of referral for in‐depth assessment and recommendations for support, but further research is needed to refine their effective use in clinical Evaluation of TF‐CBT includes several randomised controlled trials, effectiveness studies and ongoing studies for children experiencing sexual abuse, domestic violence, traumatic grief, terrorism, disasters and multiple traumas. The model of TF‐CBT described here is a flexible, components‐based model that provides children and parents with stress management skills prior to encouraging direct discussion and processing of children’s traumatic experiences. TF‐CBT components are summarised by the acronym PRACTICE: Psychoeducation, Parenting skills, Relaxation skills, Affective modulation skills, Cognitive coping skills, Trauma narrative and cognitive processing of the traumatic event(s), \u003Cjats:italic>In vivo\u003C\u002Fjats:italic> mastery of trauma reminders, Conjoint child‐parent sessions, and Enhancing safety and future developmental trajectory. examine the phenomenology, epidemiology, and aetiology of specific phobias in this brief review. In general terms, a specific phobia exists when fear of a specific object or situation is exaggerated, cannot be reasoned away, results in avoidance of the feared object or situation, persists over time, and is not age‐specific. Specific phobias occur in about 5% of children and in approximately 15% of children referred for anxiety‐related problems. Most of these children are comorbid with other disorders. We suggest that specific phobias are multiply determined and over‐determined. Genetic influences, temperamental predispositions, parental psychopathology, parenting practices, and individual conditioning histories converge to occasion the development and maintenance of childhood phobias. Physical exercise is increasingly being recommended as part of management for children and young people with mental health problems. However, there is a lack of guidance regarding the role of physical exercise in the management of \u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">TS\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content> in children.\u003C\u002Fjats:p>\u003C\u002Fjats:sec>\u003Cjats:sec>\u003Cjats:title>Methods\u003C\u002Fjats:title>\u003Cjats:p>\u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">EMBASE\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content>,\u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\"> MEDLINE\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content>, Psyc\u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">INFO\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content>, SportDiscus, Google scholar and Cochrane register of controlled trials (\u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">CENTRAL\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content>) databases were searched. Studies investigating interventions aimed at reducing core symptoms of \u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">TS\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content> and comorbidities and exploring the relationship between physical exercise and tic severity were included.\u003C\u002Fjats:p>\u003C\u002Fjats:sec>\u003Cjats:sec>\u003Cjats:title>Results\u003C\u002Fjats:title>\u003Cjats:p>Seven studies were identified. Five focused on physical exercise interventions and two were observational studies investigating the relationship between tic severity and physical activity. There was some evidence indicating that physical exercise reduces tic severity in the short term and some evidence regarding the benefit of physical exercise on associated co‐occurring symptoms, such as anxiety. However, none of the intervention studies involved randomisation and interventions varied in terms of content and duration.\u003C\u002Fjats:p>\u003C\u002Fjats:sec>\u003Cjats:sec>\u003Cjats:title>Conclusions\u003C\u002Fjats:title>\u003Cjats:p>There was some evidence of a short‐term improvement in tic expression as a result of physical exercise interventions, but there is a lack of methodologically robust studies. imperfect fit to clinical care settings where diagnostic comorbidity and co‐occurring problems are commonplace. Most \u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">EBT\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content>s were developed to treat one diagnosis or problem (or a small homogenous cluster), but most clinically referred youths present with multiple disorders and problems.\u003C\u002Fjats:p>\u003C\u002Fjats:sec>\u003Cjats:sec>\u003Cjats:title>Findings\u003C\u002Fjats:title>\u003Cjats:p>Three emerging approaches may help address the comorbidity that is so common in treated youths. Conceptually unified treatments target presumed causal and maintaining factors that are shared among more than one disorder or problem area; preliminary open trials and case studies show promising results. Modular protocols combine the ‘practice elements’ that commonly appear in separate single‐disorder \u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">EBT\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content>s and repackage them into coordinated delivery systems; one modular protocol, \u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">MATCH\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content>, has produced positive findings in a randomized effectiveness trial. Monitoring and Feedback Systems (\u003Cjats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">MFS\u003C\u002Fjats:styled-content>s) provide real‐time data on client progress to inform clinical decision‐making, encompassing comorbid and co‐occurring problems; one study shows beneficial effects in everyday practice with diverse youth
