The disease is known as \"the great imitator\" as it often presents as other chronic dermatoses, leading to a difficult and delayed diagnosis. Here, we describe the case of a 17-year-old Vietnamese male from Dong Nai Province who was initially diagnosed with psoriasis. The individual health determinants affecting COVID-19 disease severity among vulnerable adults treated in outpatient settings are an under-researched area. Methods This study conducted in an outpatient COVID-19 antibody infusion center employed a cross-sectional survey design to explore the impact of comorbidities, general health status, and self-care self-efficacy on COVID-19 symptom severity. We recruited 120 COVID-19-positive participants over 40 years of age, of which 117 completed the study with 87 providing complete data. After the screening and consenting process, the participants completed the following surveys in a secure REDCap survey software (Vanderbilt University, Nashville, USA) on an iPad (Apple Inc., Cupertino, USA): 1) sociodemographic questionnaire, 2) Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) to capture comorbidities, 3) Medical Outcomes Study Short-Form (SF-12) to assess general health including physical (PCS) and mental (MCS) health subscales, 4) Self-Care Self-Efficacy Scale (SCSES) to measure self-care self-efficacy, and 5) the COVID-19 Symptom rating scale (COVID-19 SRS). Statistical analysis used were Chi-square and Pearson correlations. Results As evidenced by CCI, the top five comorbidities were hypertension (42%), diabetes mellitus (31%), pulmonary disease (19%), depression (14%), and solid tumors (11%). Age was statistically significantly correlated to comorbidity burden (p\u003C0.0001). Severe COVID-19 symptoms reported were fatigue, myalgia, cough, runny nose, and sore throat. The general health status measure (SF-12) subscales showed that the patient's mental component summary (MCS) was more statistically significant to COVID-19 symptom severity than the physical component summary (PCS). The MCS demonstrated a statistically significant correlation with fatigue and myalgia (p\u003C0.0001), headache and breathing difficulties (p\u003C0.001), nausea\u002Fvomiting (p\u003C0.01), and abdominal pain\u002Fdiarrhea (p\u003C0.05). The PCS showed a lesser statistically significant correlation with fatigue, myalgia, headaches (p\u003C0.01), fever\u002Fchills, cough, congestion\u002Frunny nose, night sweats, breathing difficulties, nausea\u002Fvomiting, and abdominal pain\u002Fdiarrhea (p\u003C0.05). Interestingly, the 'loss of smell' which is the hallmark symptom of COVID-19 was the only symptom that showed a statically significant correlation with the Charlson Comorbidity Index (p\u003C0.05), and it did not show any association with either mental (SF-12 MCS) or physical (SF-12 PCS) health status. The SF-12 MCS also showed a statistically significant correlation with a diagnosis of depression (p\u003C 0.01), validating it as a true measure of mental health among vulnerable adults. The SCSES was not correlated with any of the COVID-19 symptoms. Conclusions The patient's general health status, especially mental health was more statistically significant to COVID-19 symptoms. Although this disease progresses slowly and is not fatal, its symptoms lead to a decline in quality of life, affecting the patient's work. One of the current surgical treatment methods for patients with indications for surgical removal of the saphenous vein is endovenous laser ablation (EVLA). After EVLA, besides evaluating the effectiveness of surgery, and the rate of complications, one of the aspects that need attention is improving quality of life. The objective of this study was to assess the quality of life of patients with chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities before and after endovascular laser intervention, analyzing changes in ChronIc Venous Insufficiency Quality of Life Questionnaire 20 (CIVIQ-20) scores in each domain of quality of life. Methodology A total of 41 patients with chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities were enrolled in this study, who were classified as C2 to C6 and were treated by endovenous laser ablation. QoL was measured by using the ChronIc Venous Insufficiency Quality of Life Questionnaire 20 (CIVIQ-20) questionnaire pre- and post-operatively. Pain scores and clinical severity were also evaluated using the visual analog scale (VAS) and the venous clinical severity score (VCSS) one month after EVLA. Results The mean age was 52.17 ± 11.23 years. The mean duration of symptoms was 7.29 ± 3.58 years, the median laser ablation time was 40 minutes, and the mean time to return to normal activities was 5.7 ± 1.8 days. The CIVIQ-20 score at baseline was 47.8 ± 7.4 and 31.1 ± 3.9 after one-month laser ablation. The quality of life has significantly improved after intervention using laser treatment (p \u003C 0.001). The VAS and VCSS scores after laser treatment were lower than the baseline (p \u003C 0.001). In our study, there was a statistically significant correlation between the change of CIVIQ-20 and the change of VCSS (r = 0.63, p \u003C 0.001). Conclusion CIVIQ-20 is a reliable toolkit to assess the quality of life of patients with chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities. We present a case of an Asian female in her mid-30s who suffered TCA toxidrome that manifested as severe cardiovascular toxicities including arrhythmia characterized by QT elongation that was managed emergently. Hemodynamics and ECG findings improved gradually following appropriate therapy in the intensive care unit. Following two days of treatment, the patient regained consciousness and after seven days the patient made a full clinical recovery and was discharged with no residual neurological effects. To address this, the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program aims to minimize adverse clinical events for surgical patients. This is achieved through a multimodal perioperative care protocol that aims to preserve preoperative organ function and reduce postoperative complications. Initially applied to gastrointestinal surgery, this model has now been expanded to other major surgeries, including lung surgery. Through a review of seven retrospective and prospective cohort observational studies, we have examined the effects of the ERAS program on patients undergoing lobectomy for lung cancer treatment. Our analysis focused on outcomes such as length of stay, re-operation rate, re-admission rate, postoperative mortality, and costs, providing valuable insights into the real clinical practice setting.
