Using multi‐dimensional measures of work‐ and family‐role experiences, this study first examined (Time 1) the additive cumulative contributions of role experiences in the prediction of women's well‐being (happiness and symptoms of psychological distress). While work overload significantly predicted distress at Time 2, none of the family‐role variables were related to well‐being. Second, as the sample was made up of two groups of women who differed in occupational status (secretaries and professional women), it was possible that the effects of overload on distress might be conditioned by occupational status. The group X overload interaction term was found to be highly significant (p < .007); high occupational status moderated the negative effects of work overload. By contrast, secretaries were adversely affected by work overload. These results are discussed in relation to the existing literature, with reference to women's work and family roles in relation to well‐being, and the effects of occupational status on health outcomes.
Work and family roles in relation to women's well‐being: A longitudinal study
7735734
10.1111/j.2044-8309.1995.tb01050.x","PUBLICATION","VERIFIED","2025-01-23T23:39:37.139+00:00","Auto Verify",[125],"EN","https://bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.2044-8309.1995.tb01050.x",[128
"24bb0bfa-8d66-41f9-9bfd-1768095c9879",[],[132
"5655ae5a-d359-48e3-b9e8-46b70ee5c6b5
"bcedf645-9b45-4c04-9b28-ba790d650322","2023-12-06T04:08:10.616+00:00","2025-01-23T23:39:37.192+00:00",[],"Department-of-Experimental-Psychology-University-of-Oxford
Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford
"A5028474322
Noraini M. The content of the stereotypes was reflected in four dimensions: attributed efficiency, emotionality, empathy and dominance. Attributed efficiency appeared to be determined by social factors, such as perceived economic development and social security, along with the geographical location of the stereotyped nation. Attributed emotionality was solely related to the north—south location of the stereotyped national. Attributed empathy and dominance were related to perceived political power and nationalism and to the geographical size of the stereotyped nation. Within the sexual double standard, an active, desiring sexuality is positively regarded in men, but denigrated and regulated by negative labelling in women. This article analyses young women's talk on the subject of negotiating (hetero)sexual relationships, drawn from focus‐group interviews with six groups of young women aged 16–18 years. A feminist, post‐structuralist form of discourse analysis is used to analyse the material, the aim being to examine young women's talk about (hetero)sexuality from the standpoints of agency and resistance. Analyses identified various ways in which the sexual double standard was disrupted, including challenging the language of the sexual double standard, articulating sexual desire, and positioning of self and (hetero)sex within alternative discourses. The findings also suggest, however, that voices of resistance to the sexual double standard may be muted and individual rather than collective, and that, accordingly, every effort should be made by those working with young women to recognize and support attempts to disrupt the sexual double standard.
Disrupting the sexual double standard: Young women's talk about heterosexuality
12713759
10.1348/014466603763276153","2024-09-11T20:43:00.662+00:00",[125],"https://bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1348/014466603763276153",[534,556
"0c2fb5b3-f9f9-4554-a272-86a486c2a514",[],[538
"c66c87f0-85ca-42a3-8e50-55ace8ac3e05
"79e490ed-5d30-4c0e-8c16-20330e91ae3e","2023-12-07T04:45:43.642+00:00","2024-10-14T16:51:08.994+00:00",[],"Victoria-University-of-Wellington-New-Zealand
Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand
"A5020599547
https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0314-3774
Sue Jackson
"63dcdcc6-d4a3-4f8c-abf3-8d54ab2f5554",[],[560
"e37d59e8-4180-4d82-a5df-bf62a715b40c
"421321db-6d5d-4114-9747-0bd6ea1c51ab","2023-12-13T07:47:14.088+00:00","2025-07-10T10:21:29.667+00:00",[],"University-of-Auckland-New-Zealand
University of Auckland, New Zealand
"A5055501967
https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6047-8853
Fiona Cram
[
[],[],[590,597
[
[90],[94
[
[72,73],[76
"42
113-127
205
{"2012":507,"2013":613,"2014":506,"2015":613,"2016":507,"2017":614,"2018":506,"2019":614,"2020":615,"2021":616,"2022":45,"2023":45,"2024":45},13,9,7,21,"2003-03-01",2003,[
"f6b2ebed-bb0c-41fc-a050-b159189b5b12","2024-12-04T20:03:13.225+00:00",[],"The-measurement-of-extroversion-A-comparison-of-the-Eysenck-Personality-Inventory-and-the-Eysenck-Personality-Questionnaire
"2073018450",{
W2073018450
The authors of the Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI) and the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) have claimed that the extraversion scales contained in the two tests are equivalent. While the EPI scale measures extraversion as a reasonable mix of impulsivity and sociability, the EPQ's scale is almost purely a measure of sociability. research explored the roles of intrinsic motivation (IM) and extrinsic motivation (EM) and the 2 × 2 model of achievement goals as predictors of increased work effort (WE). A cross‐lagged field study was conducted among 1,441 employees from three large Norwegian service organizations across a 10‐month time span. The results showed that the relationship between IM and increased WE was more positive for employees with high levels of mastery‐approach goals. This proposition was investigated in three studies using a longitudinal, cross‐sectional and experimental design on eating, mental habits and word processing, respectively. In Study 1, snacking habit and past snacking frequency independently predicted later snacking behaviour, while controlling for the theory of planned behaviour variables. Habit fully mediated the effect of past on later behaviour. In Study 2, habitual negative self‐thinking and past frequency of negative self‐thoughts independently predicted self‐esteem and the presence of depressive and anxiety symptoms. In Study 3, habit varied as a function of experimentally manipulated task complexity, while behavioural frequency was held constant. Taken together, while repetition is necessary for habits to develop, these studies demonstrate that habit should not be equated with frequency of occurrence, but rather should be considered as a mental construct involving features of automaticity, such as lack of awareness, difficulty to control and mental efficiency.
Beyond frequency: Habit as mental construct
16984725
10.1348/014466605x49122","2024-09-01T16:55:37.161+00:00",[125],"https://bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1348/014466605X49122",[1116
"15492911-b085-40f2-9403-10d4880399aa",[],[1120
"3d3d4b32-6bb6-4215-969e-ce45633bb8b3
"4fe87c14-613f-4f6d-9a3e-84523b69bc72","2024-01-30T17:28:09.681+00:00","2024-09-28T07:21:42.748+00:00",[],"University-of-Troms%C3%B8-Norway
University of Tromsø Norway
"A5010713792
https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7217-0293
Bas Verplanken
[
[],[],[1150,1157
[
[90],[94
[
[72,73],[76
"45
639-656
586
{"2012":1173,"2013":1174,"2014":1175,"2015":731,"2016":1175,"2017":1176,"2018":1177,"2019":1178,"2020":1179,"2021":1180,"2022":1180,"2023":1178,"2024":502},29,45,32,31,43,20,90,33,"2006-09-01",2006,[1184,1187,1190,1193,1196,1199,1202,1205,1208,1211,1214,1217,1220,1223,1226,1229,1232,1235,1238,1241,1244,1247,1250,1253,1256,1259,1262,1265,1268,1271,1274,1277,1280,1283,1286,1289,1292,1295,1298,1301,1304,1307,1310,1313,1316,1319
"10.1037/0022-3514.78.1.53
"10.1111/j.1559-1816.1998.tb01681.x
"Ajzen I., 1988, Attitudes, personality, and behaviour",{
"10.1207/S15327957PSPR0602_02
"Ajzen I., 2005, The handbook of attitudes, 173",{
"Bargh J. In this paper, we systematically review the vast number of findings on SVO and cooperation, and synthesize the state of the art by presenting an integrated conceptual model that may explain why and when people with different social values select different behavioural strategies in social dilemmas. Specifically, building on Pruitt and Kimmel's (1977) goal/expectation theory and our review of the literature, we suggest that the relationship between SVO and cooperative behaviour is mediated by (1) a cooperative goal and (2) the specific expectations concerning alters' behaviour. We also propose that trust and goal alignment are important contextual moderators of this relationship: for prosocials, cues signalling trust are necessary to generate positive expectations regarding alters' behaviour, whereas proselfs need external incentives to align their personal interest with a cooperative goal. We conclude this review by pointing to several avenues for future research that would help to deepen our understanding of the role of SVO in human cooperation.
Social value orientation and cooperation in social dilemmas: A review and conceptual model
17915044
10.1348/014466607x244970","Author affiliation is blank",[125],"https://bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1348/014466607X244970",[1345,1356,1367
"07689fad-6d06-4d57-b1c2-25947722f91a",[],[
"A5053345643
https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9348-112X
Carolyn H. This paper reports the results of a meta‐analysis of the effects of crossed categorization on intergroup evaluations. The present effort was able to contrast and evaluate 11 models previously proposed to account for the effects of crossed categorization. The category differentiation (reduction) model received the most support insofar as (a) it rendered predictions of intergroup evaluations that were significant and of moderate magnitude, and (b) these predictions varied as a significant function of the proposed underlying mechanism for the model (the similarity between the categorization dimensions). We discuss the implications of these results for future research on crossed categorization.
The effects of crossed categorization on intergroup evaluations: A meta‐analysis
10.1111/j.2044-8309.1998.tb01174.x",[125],"https://bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.2044-8309.1998.tb01174.x",[1775,1807,1828
"6be0d6a2-17b5-4bca-8f3a-722b57d0470c",[],[1779,1790
"86901c02-b578-418d-9d56-2b622c907007
"3321a7ea-8b16-4811-ad42-abb61d0679f2","2024-01-12T00:06:19.373+00:00","2024-09-22T15:40:13.083+00:00",[],"Department-of-Psychology-Syracuse-University-Syracuse-NY-13210-USA
Department of Psychology, Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY 13210, USA
"a3eefa77-4df4-4684-baca-69444e934f84
"cb4d6c1f-d53d-40e3-8ff5-3c867438ff11","2024-09-22T15:40:13.085+00:00",[],"School-of-Psychology-University-of-Wales-Cardiff-PO-Box-901-Cardiff-CF1-3YG-UK
School of Psychology, University of Wales, Cardiff, PO Box 901, Cardiff CF1 3YG, UK
"A5023710144
https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8861-0465
Miles Hewstone
"0cf05231-d026-449c-bb4f-75c3501d99c6",[],[1811,1817
"a029ddca-1ff0-4ad5-909d-77aa6253b428
[
"f7f68520-e602-4f21-a416-e9ca1f3269f2
[
"A5023287794
Michael J.
