However the association between coping strategies, anxiety, worries, and depression during pregnancy is a relatively neglected area of research. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the relationship between coping strategies, antenatal anxiety, pregnancy worries, and depressive symptomatology after controlling for the effects of background variables. The study sample consisted of 163 pregnant women, with gestational age ranging from 11 to 26 weeks, attending antenatal screening at a Greek public hospital. Coping strategies were measured with Brief COPE, pregnancy worries were measured with Cambridge Worry Scale (CWS), anxiety was assessed using State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-X version), and depression was measured with Center for Epidemiologic Studies—Depression scale (CES-D). Pearson’s correlation coefficients were calculated among all study variables, followed by hierarchical multiple linear regression. In the univariate analysis, low annual income, unemployment, conception after an IVF treatment, and a previous history of miscarriage were associated with anxiety, depression, and worries. Additionally, almost all coping strategies (denial, behavioral disengagement, self-blame, self-distraction, substance use, acceptance, positive reframing, active coping, and seeking emotional support) were significantly associated with antenatal anxiety, worries, and depression. Linear regression analysis showed that only previous history of miscarriage, conception after IVF, as well as denial, behavioral disengagement and acceptance coping strategies were significantly related to anxiety, worries and depressive symptomatology. The risk factors found in this study could help clinicians target anxiety and depression screening to high-risk populations of pregnant women. Provision of adequate training for obstetricians and midwives in the detection and management of anxiety and depression among pregnant women should help to decrease the psychological burden during Six electronic databases were searched to identify controlled studies targeting pregnant and postpartum women who drink or are at risk of drinking due to previous patterns of alcohol use. Controlled quantitative studies such as randomised controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies were included. The search was limited to peer-reviewed articles in English. The methodological quality of studies was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. A narrative synthesis of the findings was conducted. In total, 12,610 records were screened, and 11 studies were eligible for inclusion (9 with pregnant women, 2 with postpartum women). All studies were randomised controlled trials. Five studies had positive or partially positive primary outcomes of reductions in drinking or abstinence, and their interventions ranged from multi-session brief interventions to self-help manuals based on cognitive behavioural components. All studies showed considerable methodological limitations. Psychological interventions may be effective in promoting abstinence or reducing alcohol consumption among pregnant and postpartum women. Interventions that demonstrated some efficacy showed higher level of engagement with pregnant women compared to studies which delivered interventions in a single session. Paucity of evidence, inconsistency of outcomes, large heterogeneity in the interventions and methodological weaknesses limit the ability to make final conclusions about the overall effectiveness of these interventions. One difference of eating disorders compared to other psychiatric disorders is the physical effects of the disease. Although anorexia is easier to physically detect than bulimia and OSFED, many women remain undiagnosed and untreated. Even if an eating disorder is recognized by the individual, barriers to clinical diagnosis and treatment persist. This study examines the barriers to treatment among women with anorexia, bulimia, and OSFED using Andersen’s Behavioral Model. Approximately one third of these women endorsed symptoms of depression. A two-panel, three-round adapted Delphi exercise supplemented by a user-led interpretation work-shop. Panel one consisted of ten women who had been treated by a health visitor for and recovered from postnatal depression. Panel two consisted of 158 women who had recovered from postnatal depression who were London based members of a national support group for postnatal depression. There was a strong consensus among the participants about the 37 success factors that were identified. Factors that were identified as ‘essential’ in recovery from postnatal depression included: emotional support from partner; sleep; improved communication with partner; the diagnosis; practical support from partner; emotional support from friends; time to bond with the new baby; and prompt assessment by a health visitor. An interpretation group, made up of seven women who had recovered from postnatal depression, condensed the 37 factors into seven categories: diagnosis; positive action (or reaction) to intervene in the recognized problem; provision of support by people you know; professional or outside agency input; relationship between mother and baby; returning to work and continuity of care. There was a strong level of consensus among recovered women regarding a wide range of recovery factors. While all of the factors were considered to be, at least, ‘important’, social support from family and friends was generally rated more highly than support from health care We sought to develop a brief, convenient screening tool to identify depression in pregnant women in the community setting. Prospective mood data using the 28-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) were collected monthly in 196 pregnant women with a history of a major depressive disorder. These data were analyzed to delineate those HDRS items associated (elevated) with normal pregnancy vs. those indicative of a pregnant woman meeting diagnostic criteria for a major depressive episode. Endorsement of symptoms on seven items of the HDRS were highly predictive of having a major depressive episode during pregnancy. We present a well-validated, brief scale to screen pregnant women for clinical depression.
