These existing methods are based on asymptotic normality with respect to the number of studies. However, the test and interval estimation deviate from the nominal significance level when integrating a small number of studies. Although a method for constructing more conservative intervals has been recently proposed, the exact distribution of test statistic for the overall treatment effect is not well known. In this paper, we provide an almost-exact distribution of the test statistic in random-effects meta-analysis and propose the test and interval estimation using the almost-exact distribution. Simulations demonstrate the accuracy of estimation and application to existing meta-analysis using the method proposed here. With known variance parameters, the estimation performance using the almost-exact distribution always achieves the nominal significance level regardless of the number of studies and heterogeneity. We also propose some methods to construct a conservative interval estimation, even when the variance parameters are unknown, and present their performances via simulation and an application to Alzheimer’s disease meta-analysis.",{"EN":1042},"Inference using an exact distribution of test statistic for random-effects meta-analysis",{"VOID":1044},"Akkouchi, M. We introduce a novel test that is constructed using maxima of pairwise quantile correlations, which permit consistent assessment of the marginal linear effects. The proposed testing procedure is computationally efficient with the aid of a simple multiplier bootstrap method and does not involve any need to select tuning parameters, apart from the number of bootstrap replications. Other distinguishing features of the new procedure are that it imposes no structural assumptions on the unknown dependence structures of the predictor vector and allows the dimension of the predictor vector to be exponentially larger than sample size. To broaden the applicability, we further extend the preceding analysis to the censored response case. The effectiveness of our proposed approach in the finite samples is illustrated through simulation studies.",{"EN":1138},"A tuning-free efficient test for marginal linear effects in high-dimensional quantile regression",{"VOID":1140},"Arias-Castro, E., Candès, E. We offer several properties, including characterizations, of discrete semi-stable distributions. We establish that these distributions posses the property of infinite divisibility and that their probability generating functions admit canonical representations that are analogous to those of their continuous counterparts. Properties of discrete geometric semi-stable distributions are deduced from the results obtained for discrete semi-stability. A convenient one-parameter model for luminosity says that the expected log luminosity, T*, increases linearly as θ\n 0· log(1  +  Z*), and T*(θ\n 0) = T*  −  θ\n 0· log(1  +  Z*) is independent of Z*, where Z* is the redshift of a quasar and θ\n 0 is the true value of evolution parameter. Due to experimental constraints, the distribution of T* is doubly truncated to an interval (U*, V*) depending on Z*, i.e., a quadruple (T*, Z*, U*, V*) is observable only when U* ≤ T* ≤ V*. Under the one-parameter model, T*(θ\n 0) is independent of (U*(θ\n 0), V*(θ\n 0)), where U*(θ\n 0) = U*  −  θ\n 0· log(1  +  Z*) and V*(θ\n 0) = V*  −  θ\n 0· log(1  +  Z*). Under this assumption, the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimate (NPMLE) of the hazard function of T*(θ\n 0) (denoted by ĥ) was developed by Efron and Petrosian (J Am Stat Assoc 94:824–834, 1999). In this note, we present an alternative derivation of ĥ. Besides, the NPMLE of distribution function of T*(θ\n 0), \n \n \n \n $${\\hat F}$$\n , will be derived through an inverse-probability-weighted (IPW) approach. We propose a test for checking the equality of single-index parameters when dimensions of covariates of the two samples are equal. Further, we propose two test statistics based on Kolmogorov–Smirnov and Cramér–von Mises type functionals. These statistics evaluate the difference of the empirical residual processes to test the equality of mean functions of two single-index models. Asymptotic distributions of estimators and test statistics are derived. The Kolmogorov–Smirnov and Cramér–von Mises test statistics can detect local alternatives that converge to the null hypothesis at a parametric convergence rate. To calculate the critical values of Kolmogorov–Smirnov and Cramér–von Mises test statistics, a bootstrap procedure is proposed. Simulation studies and an empirical study demonstrate the performance of the proposed procedures.",{"EN":1661},"A constructive hypothesis test for the single-index models with two groups",{"VOID":1663},"Akritas, M.
